    Job Description Summary

The English & Communication Department at Nazareth University of Rochester, New York, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in fall 2026.

The department looks to hire a faculty member, in any content area, who can contribute to an English major that is being reconfigured to emphasize storytelling across media forms and genres. The successful candidate can expect to teach narratives in their areas of scholarly expertise but also should be able to present texts in a transmedia context, including cinema, television, and/or video games.

Review of applications will begin October 15, 2025. Position will remain open until filled.

    Essential Functions

Nazareth University seeks candidates committed to teaching excellence at a comprehensive institution that supports both liberal arts and professional programs. This position offers opportunities for interdisciplinary partnerships–most proximately with the Communication & Media major, but also programs such as Legal Studies, Global Sustainability, and Medical Humanities, depending on the faculty member’s interests. Applicants who will contribute to the university’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive environment are especially encouraged to apply.

The standard teaching load at Nazareth is four courses per semester, generally with three preparations. Along with offering courses in the major, faculty in English serve the university’s core curriculum by teaching first-year writing and 100-level literature courses.

Required Education, Experience, Technology and Skills

A Ph.D. in Literature, Rhetoric, or related field is required by the time of appointment.

Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills

The new faculty member should have a command of narratology and/or adaptation theory. Other attractive areas of interest include community-engaged learning, public humanities, and digital methods of humanistic inquiry.
