Job Summary
Help shape the future of Energy Delivery! AEP is looking for an experienced engineer with Distribution Power Analysis (Power/Load Flow) and/or Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) experience. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside other leaders in energy delivery to help develop and deploy an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) system as part of AEPs vision of powering a new, sustainable, and brighter future for our customer and communities.

What You'll Do:
Power Analysis Responsibilities/Duties
+ Work with various teams to gather requirements for the ADMS Load Flow engine.
+ Build and verify load profiles for planning and operational use within the ADMS.
+ Identify and resolve gaps in AEP data and processes which could hinder the accuracy of the ADMS Load Flow engine
+ Test the accuracy of the ADMS Load Flow engine, and document all bugs/defects
+ Work with the ADMS vendor and System Integrator to resolve bug/defects
+ Document and Train others in the configuration of the ADMS Load Flow engine
+ Over time, work with ADMS vendor to improve product accuracy and functionality.
+ Closely collaborate with team members to implement and maintain advanced applications.
Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) Responsibilities
+ Work with various teams to gather requirements for the ADMS DERMS Advanced Application.
+ Maintain an updated operational model of all DERs within the DERMS application.
+ Build and verify DER Production profiles for forecasting and operational use within the DERMS Application.
+ Identify and resolve gaps in AEP data and processes with respect to DERs that could hinder the accuracy of the ADMS Load Flow engine, DER Forecasts, and DER Management
+ Assist testing the accuracy of the ADMS Load Flow engine with respect to DERs and document all bugs/defects.
+ Work with the ADMS vendor and System Integrator to resolve bug/defects.
+ Document and Train others in the configuration and maintenance of the DERMS Application
+ Over time, work with ADMS vendor to improve the DERMS product accuracy and functionality.
+ Closely collaborate with team members to implement and maintain DERMS coordination with other existing ADMS advanced applications (VOO, FLISR, SCA).
Required Skills.
+ A strong background in the design and operation of an electrical distribution system.
+ An understanding of station layout, equipment and ratings.
+ Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex technical subjects to senior management.
+ Strong Analytical and Troubleshooting skills, with the ability to provide solution to identified issues; ability to think outside the box.
+ Effective written skills with a focus on documentation
Desired Skills
+ Knowledge of the various types of DERs, their characteristics, and how they impact the distribution system.
+ Basic knowledge of the DER Interconnection process. Understanding of IEEE 1547-2018 and how it applies to the operations of DERs.
+ Knowledge of Advanced Automation Applications:
+ Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMs)
+ Distance to Fault (DTF)
+ Fault Location, Isolation, Service, and Restoration (FLISR)
+ Distribution Automation Circuit Reconfiguration (DACR)
+ Integrated Volt Var Conservation (IVVC) / Volt Var Optimization (VVO)
+ Experience with the following applications:
+ OSI Monarch ADMS
+ OSI Integra DERMS
+ OSI Spectra ADMS
+ ASPEN
+ CYME
+ DGP
+ JIRA
+ EO
+ EEMS
+ POA
+ Experience as a planning or operations engineer
+ Understanding of IEEE 1815(DNP3), SunSpec Modbus, IEEE 2030.5(SEP2), and MESA standards.
+ Understanding of distribution equipment ratings; Conductors, Regulators, Capacitors, Reclosers, switches.
+ Knowledge of customer owned Distributed Generation
+ Knowledge of Energy Markets and FERC Order 2222
+ Experience supporting software applications.
+ Project Management knowledge
+ Experience with Agile Workflow
+ Experience with Neural networks for DER forecasting.

Engineer Associate (grade 5) - $61,647 - $75,000
Engineer (grade 6) - $72,380 - $85,000
Engineer (grade 7) - $85,081 - $100,000
Engineer Sr (grade 8) - $97,000 - $120,000
What We Are Looking For:
**A degree in Electrical Engineering is required.** Experience in Energy Management Systems, Distribution Management Systems, system reliability & grid operations, planning and modeling is a plus. The engineer will be troubleshooting and analyzing EMS & DMS powerflow solutions and work with various other applications used in the daily reliability and operations of the electric grid. The engineer will oversee modeling responsibilities for an assigned area in accordance with AEP’s capital and O&M work plan. Experience with Python, C++ and scripting languages is preferred.
The Engineer is primarily responsible for engineering support of the Reliability applications, processes, and the associated data and solution integrity. This includes supporting Transmission and / or Distribution State Estimator functionality as well as other reliability tools used in Transmission System Operations. The job focuses on maintaining acceptable solution quality in support of Real-time system reliability. The engineer will be part of 24x7 On-Call support staff rotation in order to provide non-stop support to the System Control Center; this means that during the time they are on-call they are expected to be available and respond.
Education and Experience (Engineer Associate - grade 5):
+ This is an entry level position for new graduates with a **bachelor's degree in engineering** in a program accredited by ABET*; **_Preferably a degree in Electrical Engineering with Power System background/study._**
Education and Experience (Engineer - grade 6):
+ Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*.
Education and Experience (Engineer - grade 7):
+ Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a master’s degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*.
Education and Experience (Engineer Sr- grade 8):
+ Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or
+ 4 years of related engineering experience along with a master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*;
*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE) is encouraged and preferred.
