    Assistant Professor - Clinical, Nurse Anesthesia

     

    Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedAssistant Professor - Clinical, Nurse Anesthesiaat its Detroit campus location.

    Essential functions (job duties):

    Participates in mission of the Program and development, implementation, and evaluation of the Nurse Anesthesia didactic and clinical curriculum. Responsible for teaching within the Nurse Anesthesia program and supervision and evaluation of student progress in the classroom. Additionally, assists department with research expertise and development of scholarly activities.

     

    The workload guidelines are in concert with the faculty job description and will be reviewed annually by the Program Director to address faculty feedback and the effectiveness of the document in meeting the needs of the program.

    Program Responsibilities:

    1. Assists with maintaining all aspects of the Program of Nurse Anesthesia within the Standards and Guidelines of the Council on Accreditation (COA) of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.

    2. Supports and facilitates the goals of the University and the program.

    3. Designs and delivers didactic education in accordance with COA and NBCRNA recommendations and consistent with areas of knowledge and skill and departmental needs.

    4. Facilitates assessment of student academic achievement and other areas of instructional effectiveness.

    5. Assists in the preparation of necessary reports on program activities, standards, accreditation requirements, internal and external meeting outcomes, educational concerns, and student successes.

    6. Establishes regular meetings with students to review student progress and need for additional support in their scholarly projects.

    7. Assists the department in research development, institutional review board applications and obtaining grants.

    8. Become familiar with the accreditation standards for programs and participates in the services and or activities required for accreditation review.

    9. Review workload structure to determine aspects of interest beyond teaching in which to participate and or offer expertise and or support.

    10. Engage in scholarly activity

    11. Maintains professional expertise through appropriate education/organizational activities.

    12. Seeks education opportunities available to faculty as needed such as information offered through Office of Teaching and Learning.

    University and Community Engagement

    1. Serves on program, department, college, university, and professional committees.

    2. Attends regional and national meetings in their area of expertise.

    Advising/Mentoring

    1. Serves as research and doctoral project mentor to ensure all necessary timelines are met including disseminations of research-based knowledge through publications and presentations.

    Student Recruitment and Enrollment

    1. Advises prospective applicants and current students.

    2. Participates in the admissions process, these include recruitment, interviews, and selection of students.

    Metrics and Outcomes

    1. Assists Program Director in leading curriculum development, implementation and evaluation; effectively communicates programmatic issues to the Program Administration; participates in curriculum review and ongoing development.

    2. Analyzes program assessment data for programmatic and departmental improvement.

    3. Reviews course evaluations and determines areas for improvement/discussion at department meeting.

    Unique duties:

    Qualifications:

    + Higher education experience, teaching, and coordinating coursework for students in the health sciences.

    + Must possess a Research Doctorate in a health science discipline (Physiology, Pharmacology, Anatomy, Biology, etc.) from a nationally accredited institution.

    + Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community.

    Preferred qualifications:

    The highly successful candidate may also meet the following qualifications: Familiarity of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program’s policies and procedures. Skill in goal setting and team building. Analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement and evaluate program activities.
