Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
+ The Director of Project Accounting - Mission Support, leads all project accounting activities for a $2B government contracting segment. This role is critical in ensuring compliant, accurate, and timely financial management of complex government contracts across multiple contract types (CPFF, T&M, FFP). The ideal candidate will bring expertise in government accounting (FAR, CAS, DFARS), project lifecycle financial management, and leadership in a matrixed environment. This position requires strong collaboration with Program Management, Contracts, FP&A, and Compliance to drive operational excellence and financial integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Lead and manage the project accounting function for assigned business segment, ensuring alignment with corporate policies, GAAP, and federal government regulations.
+ Oversee project creation, maintenance, and closeout in compliance with FAR, CAS, DFARS, and internal controls.
+ Supervise the timely and accurate recording of revenue, cost, and profitability at the project level in accordance with contract terms and applicable accounting standards (e.g., ASC 606).
+ Provide and manage project-level financial performance, including monthly reviews of actuals vs. budget, EACs (Estimates at Completion), and margin and variance analyses. Identify and analyze the nature of the variances in monthly forecasts and recommend corrective actions to be taken to improve financial performance.
+ Serve as a key liaison between Project Accounting, Finance, Program Management, and Compliance teams to ensure financial transparency and accuracy.
+ Partner with Contracts and Program Management to ensure appropriate contract funding, billing milestones, and modifications are captured and reflected correctly.
+ Drive compliance and audit readiness for internal controls and external audits (e.g., DCAA, DCMA).
+ Proactively identify and lead process improvement opportunities and initiatives. Implement standardized processes and reporting across IFS and SAP environments to ensure consistent visibility and control of project financials.
+ Provide executive-level reporting and insight into project performance across the portfolio using ERP analytics and BI tools.
+ Lead and mentor a distributed team of project accounting professionals, ensuring high performance and continuous development.
+ Act as a change leader for finance transformation initiatives and cross-functional process enhancements. Champion for ERP project accounting functionality, collaborating with IT and business systems teams for optimization.
+ Assist with or perform other finance special projects or functions as needed.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and job skills can be obtained may be substituted.
+ Certification/Licenses:
+ CPA is required, active status preferred.
+ Experience:
+ Minimum of eight (8) years' progressive experience in project accounting, with a minimum of five (5) years experience in leadership or a management position.
+ Demonstrated experience managing financials for a large or multi-entity business segment ($1B+), with complex cost structures.
+ ERP proficiency in large-scale financial environments.
+ Other Requirements:
+ United States citizenship.
+ May work extended hours.
Desired Qualifications:
+ Experience:
+ Experience in federal government contracting environment, including multiple contract types (CPFF, T&M, FFP) desired.
+ Expertise in FAR, CAS, and DCAA/DCMA audit protocols preferred.
+ Prior involvement in ERP or data architecture projects with finance system integration preferred.
+ Systems experience with IFS, Kyriba, SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, a plus.

+ Financial/Business Acumen:
+ Comprehensive technical knowledge of GAAP requirements, government financial performance, operational accounting, and SOX compliance.
+ Deep understanding of how accounting drives contract performance, profitability, and long-term growth.
+ Proven track record managing and supporting audits in a regulatory-heavy environment.
+ Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
+ Experience supporting change management and user enablement for cross-functional initiatives.
+ Ability to maintain strict compliance with V2X policies and procedures relating to our Business Ethics and Code of Conduct, in addition to specific procurement regulations established by the federal government.
+ Demonstrates the highest degree of safeguarding confidential, sensitive, business, and employee data.

+ ERP financial systems (i.e. IFS, Kyriba, UltiPro, etc.)
+ Microsoft Office 365 suite, including SharePoint
+ Proficient in the use of computer software programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and advanced to expert knowledge of Excel.
+ Technology:
+ Company computer, printer, copy machine and other general office equipment.
Team Management:
+ Effective leader with experience in leading a project accounting organization while garnering trust and loyalty from subordinates.

+ The following salary range is intended to display the value of the company’s base pay compensation and may be modified at the discretion of the company.
+ USD $ 165,000 - 220,000
+ Provided salary range minimum and maximum values correspond to variances between regional/geographic locations across the United States.
