    As a Mechatronics Fellow Intern in the Aero Thermal Mechanical Systems Lab, you will be involved in inventing and maturing the mechanical solutions that enable new manufacturing, inspection, and repair capabilities for GE Aerospace and our customers. In this hands-on role, you be part of the team that leads the design, analysis, prototyping, and testing of novel solutions that will have a direct impact on our ability to deliver our products to our customers and to keep them in revenue service.

     

    At GE Aerospace Research, scientists, engineers, and technicians innovate for the future of flight. An internship with us will provide valuable hands-on experience to help you launch your career in industrial research. Intern assignments are typically for 12-14 weeks; working side by side with experts in the field of mechanical engineering, completing challenging technical projects and applying theoretical knowledge to real-life technical problems. This program includes seminars on cross-center technology and soft skills development as well as opportunities for networking and showcasing project accomplishments.

    Required Qualifications

    + Current enrollment in a full-time Ph.D. degree program in Mechanical Engineering or related disciplines at an ABET accredited university

    + Permanent legal authorization to work in the US is required. This role is restricted to U.S. persons. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

    + Willing to work at the GE Aerospace Research site in Niskayuna, NY

    + Minimum GPA 3.0 / 4.0 scale

    Desired Characteristics

    + Experience developing confined space access tools and mechanisms

    + Testing experience of electromechanical components and systems, data acquisition (DAQ, LabVIEW), and design validation

    + Familiarity with electrical circuit design and troubleshooting.

    + Experience in developing novel mechanisms, including electro-mechanical systems, actuators, and/or sensors and end effectors

    + Experience working on multidisciplinary teams to mature mechanical system technologies through conceptual design, detailed analysis, prototyping, and testing

    + Proficiency using 3D solid modeling software (e.g., NX, SOLIDWORKS, Creo)

    + Experience in simulation of kinematics and dynamics of mechanisms and electromechanical systems

    + Analytical experience, including structural/thermal finite element analysis with ANSYS

    + Excellent academic performance with technical research orientation

    + Ability to adapt to change and willingness to be flexible in a global team environment

    + Strong interpersonal skills, initiative and organization; demonstrated ability working with a team

    + Strong problem solving skills, thorough attention to detail

     

    The pay range for this position is $1,000-$2,000 USD weekly. The specific weekly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. GE provides travel reimbursement and housing stipend for qualified interns.
