Summary
+ The Patient Access Coordinator works in conjunction with the Patient Access Manager to assist in the day to day operations of the Admitting department. This person will perform receptionist and clerk duties relating to the admission and discharge of patients, requiring some independent judgment and a working knowledge of department procedures related to work performed to contribute to the efficient operation of the department.
General Hours of Work
+ As determined (day, evening, overnight, weekend coverage)
Education and/or Experience
+ High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bi-lingual experience preferred but not required.
Essential Functions
+ Assists in the managerial responsibilities (interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems).
+ Maintains good working knowledge of patient access modules. Serves as the training resource to staff for patient access modules. Coordinates implementation of new enhancements or releases in the patient access modules.
+ Assists with the scheduling and staffing needs of the department and must be willing to fill in for admissions when other options have been exhausted. Must be flexible and willing to pick up shifts on short notice.
+ Provides exceptional customer service skills: smile, welcoming attitude, ability to engage and make a great first impression on our guests including employees, visitors, patients, business representatives and the general public arriving at the facility.
+ Ensures staff collect appropriate patient payments for services.
+ Reviews staff work for accuracy and completeness and follow up on any issues noted.
+ Coordinates and works with other departments to provide a smooth, timely and accurate admitting service for patients, physicians and their related departments.
+ Addresses complaints and resolves problems.
+ Ensures that service excellence initiatives are implemented and consistently maintained including AIDET scripting, SHARE, and service recovery.
+ Maintains a clean and orderly appearance of the work area at all times.
+ Exhibit flexibility with changes and developments within the department.
+ Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
