Your Role at Allison
As the Associate Director of Operations on 2nd Shift, you’ll lead supervisors and hourly employees to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing results. You’ll manage union relationships, champion Lean Manufacturing and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices, and drive continuous improvement. In this role, you’ll balance workforce planning, operational excellence, and long-term strategy while fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.
Operations Director responsibilities
In this role you will:
+ Directly manage a team of supervisors with indirect oversight of 40+ hourly employees.
+ Oversee the employee life cycle, including hiring, training, development, employee relations, and performance management.
+ Guide training and development through coaching, feedback, and Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
+ Implement departmental objectives aligned with plant and company goals.
+ Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and recognition through consistent communication.
+ Lead cross-functional teams to deliver results through continuous improvement in support of Allison Operational Excellence.
+ Manage union relationships, including grievance resolution and adherence to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
+ Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor to support safety, quality, and production goals.
+ Apply Lean Manufacturing and TPM principles to drive operational efficiency.
+ Provide input to budgeting and workforce planning activities to support long-term strategy.

You’re a decisive leader who balances strategic vision with day-to-day operations. You excel at building strong relationships with union employees, fostering a culture of safety, and driving continuous improvement. You thrive in fast-paced environments where leadership, collaboration, and accountability are critical to success.
Required
+ Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.
+ 7+ years of operations experience in manufacturing, including 5+ years in leadership.
+ Experience leading high-performing teams and driving cultural change.
+ Experience applying Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
Preferred
+ Master’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.
+ 7+ years of leadership experience in manufacturing operations.
+ Experience working in a union environment, ideally leading union employees.
+ Lean Manufacturing certification.
