This position, within the Data Analytics Specialist job family of IT, will have the primary responsibility of turning data into insights that inform decisions and drive measurable business outcomes. The ideal candidate pairs strong technical skills in SQL and Python/R with a keen ability to translate questions into analysis, design intuitive dashboards, and tell clear, compelling data stories. Success looks like trustworthy datasets, well‑defined KPIs, and actionable recommendations that help leaders move faster with confidence.
The Data Analyst partners closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and BI developers to source, prepare, analyze, and visualize data. You'll shape requirements, define metrics, and build scalable dashboards and reports-primarily in Power BI or Tableau-while upholding data quality, governance, and security standards. Exposure to the Microsoft Azure data platform (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, Data Lake) and enterprise tools such as SAP BusinessObjects and Collibra is beneficial as we continue to mature our analytics ecosystem.
This position requires a strong customer service focus, positive attitude, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Responsible for compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, corporate policies, guidelines and procedures, including but not limited to, RUS, OSHA, SOX, NERC, FERC and ITS requirements. Promotes an environment of compliance and continuous improvement to meet the Corporation's goals and objectives.
Job Duties:
+ Analysis & Insight: Explore datasets to identify trends, correlations, and anomalies; apply descriptive and inferential statistics to answer business questions and recommend actions.
+ Data Preparation: Profile, clean, join, and transform data from multiple sources; document data lineage and assumptions to ensure repeatability and trust.
+ Dashboards & Reporting: Design and maintain dashboards, reports, and self‑service artifacts (e.g., certified datasets, KPIs) using Power BI or Tableau; apply visualization best practices and accessibility standards.
+ Measurement & KPIs: Partner with stakeholders to define business‑ready metrics and guardrails; implement calculations (e.g., DAX or Tableau calc fields) and set row‑level security where appropriate.
+ Governance & Quality: Monitor data quality; contribute to data cataloging and stewardship practices (e.g., Collibra); recommend cleansing/enrichment solutions.
+ Collaboration: Translate business needs into analytic requirements; work with data engineers to optimize pipelines and with IT to ensure secure, performant data access.
+ Continuous Improvement: Stay current on analytics techniques, tooling, and best practices; proactively improve dashboards, queries, and documentation for performance and usability.
+ Support & Enablement: Provide Tier 2/3 analytical support; coach business users on interpreting dashboards and responsibly using data.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
+ Level III - Minimum of 4 years as a data analyst/BI analyst (or closely related), including hands‑on work with SQL and a major visualization platform.
+ Level IV - Minimum of 6 years in analytics with demonstrated leadership of projects, stakeholder management, and delivery of scalable dashboards and datasets.
+ Level V - Minimum of 8 years in analytics, including owning major analytics initiatives, standardizing metrics across domains, and providing thought leadership across IT.
Equivalent Experience (in lieu of degree requirements above)
+ Level III - Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience may also be considered.
+ Level IV - Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience may also be considered.
+ Level V - Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience may also be considered.
Responsibility:
+ Level III - Independently develops analytical datasets, dashboards, and reports; conducts exploratory analysis; begins leading small analytics workstreams.
+ Level IV - Leads analytics projects from requirements to delivery; establishes KPI definitions; mentors junior analysts; collaborates cross‑functionally to improve data products.
+ Level V - Oversees major analytics programs; standardizes metric definitions enterprise‑wide; sets best practices for visualization, performance, security, and governance; recognized as a subject matter expert across the IT function.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations (plus, not required)
+ Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate
+ Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
+ Databricks (e.g., Lakehouse/SQL Analyst or Data Engineer Associate)
+ Certified Analytics Professional (CAP)
+ ITIL Foundation
Specialized Skills:
Technical Expertise
+ Strong command of SQL for data manipulation and performance‑minded querying.
+ Proficiency with Python or R for wrangling, statistical analysis, and automation.
+ Expertise in data visualization and dashboard design; ability to apply best practices to communicate insights clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
+ Working knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics, experiment design basics (e.g., A/B), and forecasting techniques.
+ Familiarity with data modeling concepts (e.g., star schema, slowly changing dimensions) and with large‑scale datasets.
Tools & Technologies
+ Power BI or Tableau (advanced), Excel (advanced).
+ Exposure to Azure analytics services (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, ADLS).
+ Experience with SAP BusinessObjects a plus; data cataloging with Collibra a plus.
+ Version control and teamwork with Git; work management in Azure DevOps or similar.
Data Governance & Security
+ Understanding of data quality frameworks, data lineage, and stewardship practices.
+ Ability to implement row‑level security, manage sensitive data responsibly, and align with compliance standards (e.g., SOX) in partnership with IT and Security.
