Job Description
New York City Emergency Management (NYCEM) helps New Yorkers before, during, and after emergencies through preparedness, education, and response. NYCEM is responsible for coordinating citywide emergency planning and response for all types and scales of emergencies. We are staffed by more than 200 dedicated professionals with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, including individuals assigned from other City agencies.
The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI) is responsible for the management of all EEO, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion programs for the agency which include advocating for institutional change, development and implementation of EDI policies and strategies, provision of technical assistance, training and development, data analysis, and talent acquisition while ensuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
Project Description/Intern Responsibilities:
The New York City Office of Emergency Management (NYCEM) seeks an Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (DEI) College Aide to support the agency’s DEI efforts, increase the agency’s profile in the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)/Diversity sphere, maintaining records of applicant demographics and selection outcomes, coordinate and produce DEI training and compliance. The role reports to the Chief Equity and Diversity Officer (CEDO).
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist the CEDO in supporting the delivery and tracking of agency trainings and maintaining compliance with the City of New York’s training requirements.
- Performing administrative tasks such as scheduling meetings, preparing materials, updating databases, and supporting internal communications.
- Work with CEDO in the preparation of required EEO reports, responses to audits, annual statements, and other EEO-related reporting to external parties, including coordinating the collection and analysis of EEO data and information.
- Conducting research or data entry as needed to support compliance and equity-related projects.
- Review documentation and respond to requests for reasonable accommodation in consultation with the CEDO.
- Carry out special projects/assignments as assigned.
- Research creative content for EDI internal and external page.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong analytical, research and communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Suite (Word, Excel, Forms, and Outlook).
- Self-starter, ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications
For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
