Job Purpose:
Progress Rail is looking for a Production Technician in their Independence, MO facility.
Responsibilities include all aspects of supporting the manufacture, test, and shipment of train inspection and data acquisition equipment for the railroad industry. Included is the labor required to wire, assemble, and test train inspection equipment. Additional duties include all activities required to support production including shipping, receiving, packing, picking, and inventory control.

Key Job Elements:
• Follow engineering drawings for final assembly high tech electro-mechanical devices;
• Follow engineering drawings for wiring electronic equipment and electrical diagrams;
• Work with inventory management during the manufacture and repair process;
• Work with production and quality teams to meet safety, performance, and quality metrics;
• Support repair line and production work.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years experience in railroad industry and manufacturing/test operations;
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams after completing on the job training;
• 1-2 years of experience with electrical assembly or electrical wiring and working off of schematics or wiring diagrams;
• Experience in electronics, electrical, and electro-mechanical assembly;
• Experience in Railroad Train Inspection products a plus;
• Must have a good sense of urgency;
• Ability to operate tools such as forklift, air tools, power tools, crimpers, solder, etc.;
• Ability and willingness to comply with all safety-related initiatives;
• Ability to work safely and avoid hazardous behaviors;
• Willingness and ability to work overtime as required;
• Ability to learn and comply with quality practices;
• Proven track record of success in a culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement and high performance.
Preferred Experience with Test Equipment including:
• Multi meters;
• Oscilloscope;
• DC Power Supply;
• Emulation Software (Procom/HyperTerminal/Teraterm/etc.);
• Fundamental Electronic Concepts;
• Custom Test Equipment.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions
• Strength – Position requires lifting up to 50 lbs. Lifting above 50 pounds may be required with the use of team lift or other lifting devices such as overhead cranes, etc. Requires stamina and strength to work in tight and confined spaces;
• Motion – Position requires the ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, reaching, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and kneeling. Position requires remaining in a stationary position for prolonged periods. Position requires working from heights exceeding 6 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection;
• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Position is exposed to high levels of noise and vibration from using tools. The use of proper PPE is required. The position requires the ability to read written instruction and understand both verbal and written instructions. Strong hand – eye coordination is needed;
• Work Environment – Position can be located inside or outside dependent on situation. When inside the employees are subject to temperature extremes in non-temperature-controlled environments. When outside employees are subject to all weather elements;
• Emotional Demands – Employee is expected to work and cooperate as part of a team in order to meet production requirements;
• Safety – Position is safety sensitive as it requires working in and around live tracks and operation and repair of heavy equipment. Position requires strict adherence to safety policies (i.e. blue flag) and use of all required PPE.
