Overview
CBS Lending is a team within the Consumer Banking Services region of the Product Engineering division of NFCU’s Enterprise Technology Services (ETS). ETS’s Product Engineering (PE) division creates world-class technology products and services for our valued members and employees.
The CBS Lending Team is dedicated to innovating and delivering from inception to implementing the best technology products and services to protect and safeguard our members' data, assets, and portfolio.
The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2026 and ending in August 2026. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or later.
Responsibilities
Learn and understand the Lending portfolio of applications by providing support on the following:
+ Become familiar with the application lifecycle management tools (ADO) and how requirements are translated into specific implementation steps.
+ Participate in the Consumer Lending Agile Release Train (ART) ceremonies and understand how backlog is refined for delivery readiness
+ Support Sprint Activities: Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives to understand team dynamics and workflows.
+ Contribute to Development Tasks: Assist in coding, debugging, testing, or documentation based on the team’s current sprint goals.
+ Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work with developers, QA, product managers, and designers to understand how Agile teams deliver value.
+ Shadow and Learn: Observe team members during pair programming or code reviews to gain practical insights.
+ Complete Assigned Learning Modules: Engage with onboarding materials, tutorials, or internal training sessions.
+ Document Learnings and Progress: Maintain a weekly log or journal to track what you’ve learned and accomplished.
+ Take Ownership of Small Tasks: Manage and complete low-complexity tickets or bugs independently with guidance.
+ Ask Questions and Seek Feedback: Regularly check in with your mentor or buddy to clarify doubts and improve.
+ Suggest Improvements: Share fresh ideas or observations that could enhance team processes or product features.
+ Update Task Boards: Keep Azure DevOps (ADO) updated with task status and notes.
+ Present your summary at the CL ART Demo: Summarize your contributions, learnings, and reflections to share with the team.
Qualifications
Business Soft Skills:
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Self-starter/self-directed
+ Understanding of general Information Technology and programming concepts
+ Experience with systems analysis, workflow, or procedural analysis
+ Strong analytical skills with experience creating reports and presentations
+ High level proficiency with Microsoft Office and PowerPoint
+ Effective organizational, planning and time management skills
+ Skilled at analyzing and organizing problems or work processes for technical solutions
Technical Skills:
+ Familiarity with Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) for application development including determining, developing, testing, and implementing system requirements; designing, coding, debugging applications
+ Ability to conduct research and analysis and make recommendations
+ Ability to analyze, define, and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating systems environment, interface with other systems, internal and external controls, and output
+ Familiarity with designing and coding application solutions; integrating changes to applications
+ Ability to develop and maintain solution documentation
+ Ability to identify business requirements (e.g., needs, objectives, functions, features, input, and output)
+ Ability to prepare test data; conduct unit and string testing; debug code and systems components
