    Overview

     

    Join a dynamic and experienced team as a Land Survey Crew Chief, where you'll lead field operations across a variety of exciting projects throughout the Southeast. Based out of our Raleigh office, this role offers the opportunity to work independently while guiding a small, skilled crew—typically two team members—to deliver precise and high-quality survey data. If you're passionate about surveying and enjoy working outdoors with a strong sense of responsibility and leadership, this could be the perfect fit.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Conduct site visits to identify landmarks, physical features, and land changes relevant to survey work.

    + Lead and coordinate daily operations of the survey crew, setting priorities and organizing tasks efficiently.

    + Ensure all collected data—angles, distances, and measurements—meets accuracy standards and regulatory requirements.

    + Collaborate with engineers, clients, and stakeholders to align survey results with project goals.

    + Research historical survey records, maps, deeds, and other documentation to support fieldwork.

    + Establish or reestablish survey control using appropriate methods and procedures.

    + Maintain detailed records, sketches, and notes of all work performed.

    + Complete daily logs, expense reports, and safety documentation, ensuring full compliance with safety protocols.

    + Review final survey outputs and consult with technical staff to ensure quality and accuracy.

    + Oversee the proper use and maintenance of all survey instruments and equipment.

    Required Skills & Experience

    + Minimum of 3 years of progressive field survey experience, including at least 2 years as an Instrument Operator.

    + Strong proficiency with total stations, GPS units, and data collectors.

    + Solid understanding of survey terminology and tools used for measuring, sighting, and leveling.

    Preferred Traits & Qualifications

    + Technically skilled with a process-driven approach to work.

    + Reliable, analytical, and solution-oriented with a steady and helpful demeanor.

    + Comfortable working independently, with a methodical and detail-focused mindset.

    + Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

    + Willingness to travel overnight as needed.

     

    Work EnvironmentThis field-based role is centered in Raleigh, NC, with travel throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. While most assignments are within daily commuting distance, up to 60% travel may be required. Travel outside the local area is compensated.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
