Job Title: Tooling Engineer Job Description
The Tooling Engineer will engage directly with customers to fulfill requests for tooling quotes, design for mold-ability, and flow simulation. This role requires a professional demeanor, as the engineer must consider and present competitive manufacturing processes and tool builds that meet customer needs.
Responsibilities
+ Complete Design for Mold-ability (DFM) requests using customer-supplied part data files and present findings via PowerPoint to program management or customers.
+ Participate in discussions with customers regarding the feasibility of part CAD data in terms of mold-ability.
+ Complete tooling cost breakdowns as requested by customers.
+ Conduct flow simulations for internal and external requests using Mold Ex 3D simulation software.
+ Collaborate with the Tooling Technology Center and external tool shops to process quotations for new, revised, or repair tooling.
+ Develop tooling and manufacturing descriptions based on customer needs and received information.
+ Compile, estimate, and break down all related costs and delivery timelines.
+ Attend tooling kick-off meetings, including job start, design review, and manufacturing meetings, offering insights on tool builds.
+ Present all quoted information to customers in a clear and understandable format.
+ Review actual cost data and comparable quotations to ensure quote accuracy.
+ Maintain files for revision quotes, ensuring they contain all necessary information used in processing the quote.
+ Assist in developing estimating procedures and processes.
+ Stay informed about current technology related to costing methods, program software, and part manufacturing methods.
Essential Skills
+ Associates Degree in Engineering or Tooling.
+ Experience in Design for Mold-ability.
+ Mold flow simulation experience.
+ Quoting experience, including creating quotes/estimates and direct customer interaction.
+ Proficiency with Mold Ex 3D software.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with MoldEx 3D software (nice to have).
Work Environment
The Tooling Engineer will report to the Vice President and work within the tooling building alongside tooling designers and tool makers. The position requires a commitment of 40-45 hours per week in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment. The engineer will collaborate directly with customers and other engineers to ensure project completion. The company manufactures injection-molded plastic parts for automotive, defense, medical, and consumer/industrial products, and also engages in thermoforming processes. This role involves working on new molds and tooling needed for various projects and customers.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vicksburg, Michigan.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $50.48/hr.
