Job Title: Chemical Technician Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Chemical Technician to provide technical and analytical services essential to the operation of a fossil fuel power plant. This role involves working in a dynamic environment, where safety and compliance with environmental regulations are of utmost importance.
Responsibilities
+ Work safely and be accountable for your safety and the safety of your coworkers.
+ Provide chemical protection of steam generating equipment to minimize outages due to corrosion and deposits in steam/water cycle components.
+ Minimize efficiency loss and potential replacement of water treatment, steam generating, condensing, and turbine mechanical components.
+ Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable environmental, safety, and health regulations, including ash pond inspections, dikes and wells reporting, and drinking water reporting.
+ Operate and maintain a water treatment plant for the production of de-ionized/ultra-pure water.
+ Conduct sampling of water, boiler/turbine cleaning samples, oil, coal ash, and metal deposits.
+ Perform analytical testing and monitor plant effluents and Flue Gas Desulphurization (scrubber).
+ Calibrate and maintain laboratory and online equipment and instrumentation.
+ Maintain bulk chemical and laboratory supplies inventory.
+ Assist regulatory compliance personnel to ensure compliance with applicable environmental, safety, and health regulations.
+ Operate condensate polishers and provide equipment clearances according to plant clearance procedures.
+ Operate and maintain sewage treatment plants.
+ Perform duties in the main lab and Water Analysis labs.
+ Perform QA/QC on instrumentation and maintain and calibrate bench-top instrumentation.
+ Inventory lab equipment and reagent chemicals.
+ Generate water quality reports and collect regulatory water samples.
+ Conduct air in leakage surveys and ensure all laboratory areas meet housekeeping standards.
Essential Skills
+ BS or BA degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline (minimum of 12 semester hours of chemistry).
+ Experience and competency in the use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation/equipment.
+ Knowledge of proper analytical methods and techniques.
+ Proficiency in various Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
+ Broad knowledge of analytical, inorganic, oil, environmental, and water chemistries.
+ Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems, read and understand schematic diagrams, and identify plant water process problems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Previous experience in a large water treatment facility is preferred, including operating and maintaining clarification, filtration, reverse osmosis, and de-ionization systems.
+ High level of knowledge of chemical treatment methods and operation of water treatment plant is preferred.
+ Ability to understand mechanical and electrical theories and fundamentals.
+ Understanding handling requirements of hazardous materials (HAZMAT).
+ Ability to read and interpret information presented in graphic form, such as blueprints, diagrams, drawings, graphs, and plots.
Work Environment
This position requires working in a power plant environment, which involves fieldwork and getting hands dirty. The work schedule is Monday to Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Once trained, the role requires weekend work on a rotational basis, including being on-call. On scheduled weekends, the schedule follows a 10-day on, 4-day off pattern. The environment may include exposure to fly ash, coal dust, chemical fumes, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The role requires adherence to safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as protective eyewear, natural fiber or fire-retardant clothing, and steel-toe or composite-toed shoes. Ability to work in non-temperature-controlled environments and perform physical activities while wearing respirators is required. Must be comfortable with extreme noise and vibration and working around moving equipment or objects.

This is a Contract position based out of Atlanta, Georgia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
