    Job Title: Shipfitter

    **Location:** Norfolk, Virginia

    **Job Type:** Contract to Hire

    Position Overview

    We’re seeking skilled Shipfitters to join our team at a dynamic local shipyard. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for laying out, fabricating, and assembling metal structural components—such as plates, bulkheads, and frames—within the hull of ships. You’ll work from blueprints and templates to ensure precision, using a variety of tools and techniques to align, secure, and prepare parts for welding or riveting.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Fabricate and position metal structural components for ship construction

    + Read and interpret blueprints and templates to determine layout

    + Use jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, and other tools to align parts accurately

    + Mark drilling locations and install temporary fasteners

    + Install gaskets, liners, packing, and structural accessories (e.g., doors, hatches)

    + Prepare molds and templates for custom or nonstandard parts

    + Tack weld clips and brackets prior to final welding

    + Roll, bend, flange, cut, and shape heavy metal parts such as beams and plates

    Required Skills & Experience

    + Minimum 3 years of experience as a Shipfitter

    + Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills

    + Proficient in using hand tools and shipfitting equipment

    + Experience with tack welding, metal cutting, and part alignment

    Additional Qualifications

    Familiarity with framing squares, combination squares, hammers, clamps

     

    Comfortable using safety gear: hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $30.00/hr.
