Robert Half is looking to find a talented, efficient Staff Accountant to join an esteemed organization in the Construction/Contractor industry. In this position, the Staff Accountant prepares journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation. Many aspects of internal reporting during the monthly close will be your responsibility. In addition, you will participate in compliance, interact with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes. This position involves a good deal of time spent on producing Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. The Queens, New York based company is offering this position on a long-term contract / temporary to hire basis. They provide an innovative work environment where effort is rewarded.

Major responsibilities

- Maintain capital lease and monthly payment schedules

- Be responsible for account reconciliations including prepaid expenses, payroll, and other assignments

- Prepare monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for management reporting

- Partake in annual closing processes

- Commentate on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner

- Participate in various initiatives spanning multiple departments

- Carry out fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation

- Take part the in implementation and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures, ensuring compliance with GAAP

- Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested

- Perform month end close, journal entries with minimum supervision

Requirements

- Exceptional analytical, quantitative and social skills

- Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus

- Outstanding organizational, written and verbal communication skills required

- Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement

- Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

- 1+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience

- Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills

- Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases

- Fixed Asset Accounting experience

- Demonstrated knowledge of Sage Timberline

- Monthly Financial Reporting experience

- Solid understanding of billing

- Adeptness in Sales Tax

- Fixed Asset Depreciation experience preferred

- Knowledge of month end closings

- BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

- Experience with ERP systems

- Competent with spreadsheets and databases
