    Position Overview

    The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Cultural Arts and Events Supervisor in the Department of Parks and Recreation. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.

     

    Under general supervision, organizes and oversees all aspects of planning, curation and execution of the department's Cultural Arts and special events programs, including signature events, arts education, performing arts series, literary arts, and other civic and cultural events; prepares and manages associated budgets, business and staffing plans and reports; and performs related duties as assigned.

    Position Details:

    + Location: City of Henderson Annex (occasional travel to external event sites)

    + Schedule: Tuesday – Friday (candidate may be required to work evening, weekend, and holiday event shifts)

    + Work Environment: Office, Outdoors, Inclement weather, etc.

    A successful candidate for this role would be comfortable interacting with community patrons, stakeholders, sponsors, and elected officials. They would be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and able to respond to diverse situations. Industry specific and safety training will be provided to support professional development and City of Henderson’s commitment to providing safe, high quality cultural and community experiences.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in arts administration, event management, or a closely related field

    + Three (3) years of full-time supervisory experience in cultural arts, arts education, festival management, the special events industry, and/or public programs

    + Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered

    + Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483

    + Will be required to obtain and maintain various licenses and certifications within three (3) to six (6) months of hire based on assigned program area such as, but not limited to First Aid and CPR

    + Must obtain and maintain the appropriate OSHA card as defined by the Nevada Revised Statue (NRS 618.950) if applicable

    + All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by State and Federal Laws or as required herein, must be obtained, and maintained at the incumbents’ expense

    + Desirable: Certified Festival & Events Executive (CFEE), Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP), Certified Park and Recreation Executive (CPRE)

    + Desirable: Master’s degree in arts administration, event management, or related field

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON SCHEDULING ASSESSMENTS:

    If you are invited to participate in the assessment process, you will be required to self-schedule through the City of Henderson online application system.     The assessment and selection process for this position will take place on the dates listed above. All candidates who wish to be considered for this position will need to be in Henderson, Nevada, and make themselves available to participate in the testing process at any time on any of the dates listed above.

     

    Selection Process

     

    The selection process will entail Subject Matter Experts reading and scoring your responses to supplemental questions 13-17 and your answers will be the sole determining factor for placement on the eligibility list for this classification.

     

    Subject Matter Experts will NOT have access to any information besides the answers to questions 13-17 . This means that they will not have access to applications, resumes or any other identifying information when scoring. Candidates who have been placed on the eligibility list will be invited to participate in a selection interview.

     

    The selection process will begin with an employment application package screening, with the best-qualified candidates being invited to participate further in the assessment process. This process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City will provide reasonable accommodation to qualified individuals with disabilities. It is the responsibility of the candidate requiring accommodation to contact the Human Resources Department (preferably in writing) at the time of application.

     

    Appointment may be subject to the successful and timely completion of a post offer pre-employment background investigation and medical/physical examination, including a drug/alcohol test.     + Second year through fifth calendar years of service – 17.42 hours per month

    + Sixth year through twelfth calendar years of service – 20.59 hours per month

    + Thirteenth calendar year of service and beyond – 23.75 hours per month
