Job Summary
The DESC Power Generation group seeks an Air Emissions Monitoring Specialist II or III in Cayce, South Carolina to lead improvements in Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and ensure environmental compliance. The role supports Clean Air Act program compliance, enhances regulatory processes, aligns with Dominion Energy’s policies, and reports to the Supervisor BU Environmental Compliance–Air. There is one position available.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):
Primary responsibilities for Air Emissions Monitoring Specialist II:
•Perform compliance activities, including instrument routine maintenance and troubleshooting related to Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMs) and associated Data Acquisition & Handling System in accordance with state and federal regulatory programs.
•Perform compliance activities on Continuous Opacity Monitoring Systems (COMs), Particulate Matter Continuous Monitoring Systems (PM CEMS), Mercury Sorbent Trap Systems, Part 75 Appendix D gas/fuel flow meters, and Part 75 Appendix E requirements.
•Perform and Evaluate Linearity Testing and Flow to Load Ratios.
•Perform air emissions Quality Assurance activities including data review and proper data coding of excess emissions and monitor downtime.
•Troubleshoot system issues on electronic, pneumatic, pumps, and other components for proper system operation.
•Provide technical leadership in CEMS implementation and operation, including regulatory compliance with EPA, 40CFR75, and 40CFR60 frameworks.
•Collaborate with facility associates to deliver training on air compliance systems, including CEMS operations, regulatory standards, and associated technologies.
•Manage consultant and contractor relationships to support system implementations, CEMS troubleshooting, and operational optimization.
•Support all State and EPA audits in addition to Internal Environmental Assessments.
•Participate in spill response on-call rotation.
Primary responsibilities for Air Emissions Monitoring Specialist III:
All responsibilities listed under the Environment Specialist II position in addition to:
•Assume CEMS\COMS\PMCEMS system owner role and interface with other plant equipment owners and emissions hardware vendors to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, assist plant engineering during design and construction of hardware upgrades and associated infrastructure.
•Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair any broken or malfunctioning equipment, ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and meet safety and compliance standards.
•Performs advanced data analysis and trending to identify abnormal circumstances and direct problem analysis/resolution.
•Technical writing in support of contractor procurement, site-specific test plans, emission monitoring plans, dust control plans, and other air compliance related procedures.
•Analysis and interpretation of existing and new regulations and Title V permit conditions.
•Collaborates with the CEMS Project leader to assist with major system repairs, upgrades, and installation projects.
Preferred experience includes:
•Industry experience in power plant operations and associated emissions control and measuring technologies for fossil fuel-fired power generation facilities is desired.
•3+ years experience with Cemtek KVB-Enertec CEMS Data Acquisition and Handling Software (DAHS) is a plus.
•Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Education Requirements
Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
+ **Specialist II** : Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field and at least 2 years of related experience, or an associate degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience, or a High School diploma and at least 6 years of experience in a related field.
+ **Specialist III** : Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field and at least 5 years of related experience, or an associate degree and at least 7 years of relevant experience, or a High School diploma and at least 9 years of experience in a related field.
