    The Office of Judicial Administration is responsible for the efficient administration of all agencies that operate under the direction of the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court. That includes 200 personnel; fiscal management; communication; technology; legal services; intergovernmental relations; services for the trial courts; and support for court boards, commissions, and committees. The Office is headed by Chief Administrative Officer Justin P. Forkner, who reports directly to the Chief Justice of Indiana and serves as the link between the Chief Justice and the agencies of the Court.

     

    Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $86,000 but may be commensurate with education and/or experience.

The Indiana Office of Court Services (IOCS) is seeking a Legal Support Attorney to join our Legal Support and Statistics Division.     A Day in the Life:

     

    In this dynamic role, you’ll serve as a trusted legal advisor and resource for Indiana’s judiciary. Your responsibilities will include:

     

    • Responding to complex legal research requests from judicial officers and court administrators across a wide range of legal topics, including but not limited to civil, family, probate, administrative, and criminal law.

    • Monitoring and analyzing case law and legislation that may impact Indiana’s courts.

    • Collaborating with a team of staff attorneys.

    • Supporting Judicial Conference and Supreme Court committees by coordinating meetings, preparing materials, and assisting with policy development.

    • Contributing to the revision of Benchbooks, drafting legal content, and ensuring timely updates.

    • Collaborating with IOCS education attorneys to develop and review judicial education materials and presentations.

    What You'll Need for Success:

    • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

    • Licensed to practice law in Indiana, in good standing.

    • 3+ years of legal practice with demonstrated experience in legal research and writing.

    • A broad understanding of Indiana’s judicial system, including trial court operations and the Indiana Rules of Court.

    • Experience working in or with Indiana courts, with a strong, professional working relationship with judges, court staff, and clerks.

    • A collaborative spirit, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to public service.

    • Experience in multiple areas of law (e.g., civil, family, administrative, or criminal).

    • Excellent legal research and writing abilities.

    • Strong organizational and project management skills.

    • Effective verbal and written communication tailored to diverse audiences.

    • Proficiency with Lexis, Westlaw, and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams).

    • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, including Odyssey and INcite.
