Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York provides programs and services for children and adultswith intellectual disabilities,Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses.Locatedin Highland,NY, this positionis responsible forpreventing and responding to students in crisis. The Behavior Specialist (Crisis Support) will provide crisis intervention and otherassistanceas needed tomaintainsafety and program integrity. They will provide support to students who need a higher level of care toparticipatein instruction asneeded, andassist in implementation of skill acquisition and behavior support plans as directed.Under thedirectionof the classroom teacher, they willassistin training other staff in implementation.The Behavior Specialist (Crisis Support) will administer and implement behavior improvement programs recommended byadministrationand appraise the effectiveness of the program in meeting the students’ needs.In addition, they will advisestaff onpossible causesof student’s behavior and suggest methods of teaching alternative skills ormodifyingthe environment.
**Salary:** (commensurate with education and experience)
With HS Diploma/GED: $21.50 - $23.00 per hour
With BA/BS: $22.50 - $24.07 per hour
With MA/MS or higher: $23.50 - $25.14 per hour

Qualifications
**EDUCATION:** Bachelor’s Degree in education, psychology, humanservicesor related field OR at least one year’s experience working with individuals with autism and/or severe behavioral concerns
**EXPERIENCE** **:** Atleast one year’s experience with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:** Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, inhalants or other chemical or controlled substances. Significant,prolongedand frequent amounts of walking, standing, sitting, stooping,bendingand lifting of 50 pounds or more. Using standard crisis intervention procedures, must be able to singlehandedly effect theinitialrestraint of children and adolescents. Possible exposureto blood borne pathogens.
