Job Title: Associate Director of Finance Job Description
The Associate Director of Finance is responsible for providing comprehensive financial oversight and supervision, managing day-to-day operations of assigned finance functions, and ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks. This role involves overseeing general ledger maintenance, audit preparation, grant reporting, accounts payable, and fixed asset accounting.
Responsibilities
+ Lead cash management activities including banking, investment oversight, and credit card processing.
+ Serve as the primary liaison for external banking relationships and manage online banking platforms.
+ Oversee all aspects of capital project accounting, including internal and external reporting.
+ Coordinate payments and billing between the college, county, state, and other external entities.
+ Ensure accuracy and completeness of capital project files and related documentation.
+ Collaborate with the Finance Technology and Reporting Manager to develop and maintain financial reports using querying software.
+ Work with IT to manage accounting system access and controls.
+ Support implementation and updates of computerized accounting systems and related policy changes.
+ Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
+ Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure proper accounting of all transactions.
+ Assist with internal controls and budget integrity in coordination with finance and procurement leadership.
+ Oversee legal and compliance policies and procedures for assigned financial functions, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
+ Manage the accounts payable department, including review of annual 1099 filings and support for the college’s 990T tax preparation.
+ Review and update finance-related policies and procedures to ensure alignment with best practices and institutional goals.
+ Assist with annual financial closeout and year-end projection analysis to support strategic planning.
+ Provide financial statement insights and guidance to college stakeholders, addressing non-routine inquiries and complex issues.
+ Prepare and submit financial reports, surveys, and required documentation for state and federal agencies.
+ Coordinate the annual audit process, including oversight of work paper preparation for assigned areas.
+ Maintain and monitor internal accounting controls to safeguard financial data and ensure process integrity.
+ Track and report key performance indicators (“vital signs”) for assigned areas and contribute to department-wide reporting.
+ Deliver training and support to finance department staff and college personnel as needed.
+ Maintain and update finance-related content on the college’s website and internal portal to ensure accuracy and accessibility.
+ Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff within assigned finance functions, ensuring high performance and accountability.
+ Review and assess outcomes of subordinate staff to support continuous improvement.
+ Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the finance department.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in Excel, audit, and payroll processing.
+ Strong team management and reconciliation skills.
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, finance, and/or payroll.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with Foundation and grant accounting is preferred.
+ Experience leading payroll, accounting, finance, budget planning, forecasting, and budgeting.
Work Environment
This role involves 4-5 days in the office, with heavy computer use in a fast-paced setting. It requires frequent interaction with internal and external stakeholders and handling sensitive information. The position offers great benefits, including a 37.5-hour workweek, 4 weeks of accrued vacation, time off between Christmas and New Year, spring break, and 4 personal days.

This is a Permanent position based out of Columbia, Maryland.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
