THE POSITION
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Rothrock Forest District, is looking for a passionate and committed Forest Technician (Seasonal) to join our team in safeguarding and enhancing our natural resources. This position is ideal for those who have a strong interest in environmental conservation and outdoor activities. As a Forest Technician, you will be instrumental in ensuring the vitality of our forests while promoting access for recreational purposes. This role provides valuable hands-on experience in forest management and conservation efforts, contributing to sustainable recreation within our state parks. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, your main duty will be to offer technical forestry assistance to the district's team of foresters. Your responsibilities will primarily revolve around several key program areas, including forest recreation, timber management, invasive species control, forest regeneration, and the management of forest insects and diseases. You will also play a role in supporting rural and community forestry initiatives in Centre and Huntingdon Counties, with a particular focus on recreational activities. Additionally, you will assist with wildland fire prevention, pre-suppression, suppression, and prescribed fire operations as required.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2025 until November 2025 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2026.
+ Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Overtime and travel as needed
+ Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ An associate’s degree in forest technology;or
+ Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
+ Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Condition of Employment:
+ This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
