THE POSITION

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is seeking a driven and enthusiastic Cook to join our dietetic services team. In this key role, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking specialized meals utilizing our dynamic food service delivery cook-and-serve country kitchen system for daily service and special events at the Southwestern Veteran Center. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will perform specialized cooking tasks by preparing assigned food in accordance with standardized recipes. Duties include maintaining recipe files and operating kitchen equipment, as well as cleaning cooking utensils and equipment. You will prepare cooked meats, vegetables, casseroles, soups, and salads for both regular and therapeutic diets. Additionally, you will need to check food items to ensure the quality and taste of finished products. You will also serve as a lead worker by assigning, coordinating, and participating in routine food production tasks performed by food service workers. Attending both in-house and departmental training sessions to maximize your food preparation and sanitation skills will be essential in this role.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
+ Work hours are 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, Sunday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work rotating weekends and holidays.
+ Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
+ Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable Preparation for Work:
+ Experience in cooking or quantity food preparation;or
+ Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
Additional Requirement:
+ You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
+ A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
+ This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
+ Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
