Job Description:
An Agriculture Law Enforcement Investigator plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to agriculture, animal welfare, and food safety.
• This position will work closely with other government agencies, law enforcement, and agriculture stakeholders to investigate and enforce relevant laws and regulations at Georgia Farmers Markets, predominantly the Atlanta Farmers Market.
• The investigator will be responsible for identifying and addressing potential violations, collecting evidence, conducting interviews, and participating in legal proceedings related to violations at farmers' markets.
Job Summary:
1. Agriculture is a critical industry that provides food and other essential products to people around the world.
2. However, this industry is not immune to the risks and challenges that come with operating in any sector, including natural disasters, crime, and other emergencies.
3. This is where law enforcement and emergency management play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of the agricultural industry.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
1. Working knowledge of GA Law and GDA Rules and Regulations
2. Ability to maintain order and safety through interpersonal communication skills
3. Understanding of investigative processes to include proper evidence collection/preservation
4. Ability to prepare reports, case files, charging documents, and related paperwork
5. Possess the ability to testify in court proceedings
6. Ability to provide training/education to agriculture stakeholders; solicit engagement .
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as criminal justice, agriculture, environmental science, or a related discipline, or 3 years of relevant law enforcement investigative experience.
2. Experience in law enforcement, including investigations or regulatory compliance.
3. GA POST-certified Peace Officer in good standing.
4. Possess a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, interpret, and present complex information effectively.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships and conducting interviews with diverse stakeholders.
7. Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively.
8. Familiarity with investigative techniques, evidence collection, and courtroom procedures.
9. Knowledge of relevant technology and tools for data analysis, surveillance, and evidence documentation.
10. Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors, occasionally in challenging and remote environments.
11. Ability to travel overnight, statewide, and regionally as dictated by the business needs of the agency.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
• GA POST Intermediate or Advanced Certification
• GA POST Instructor Certification
• Firearms Instructor Certification
Physical Demands:
Ability to:
1. Lift and carry objects potentially up to 200 lbs.
2. Subdue resisting individuals
3. Sustain physical activity for extended periods of time
4. Perform tasks like running, jumping, or crawling
5. Perform physical actions required for defensive tactics and self-defense
6. Use hand-eye coordination for driving, using equipment, and handling weapons

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, Georgia P.O.S.T. certification, and two (2) years of related experience; or Georgia P.O.S.T. certification and four (4) years of experience in law enforcement or related field; or Georgia P.O.S.T. certification and one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Criminal Investigator 2 (PSP091) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require the incumbent to have a valid Class C driver's license.
