TRT053 Trans Tech 4 (PG-J) Assistant Materials Specialist
$45,000.00
JOB SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, provides professional support in one or more of the following areas: OMAT, maintenance, construction, intermodal, planning, utilities, surveying, environmental or traffic. May also serve in a lead role.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: Under general supervision, locates, grid, samples, and surveys areas for sources of local materials for district construction and maintenance projects Organizes and maintains filing system for test reports. Operates district road surface profiler and repair testing equipment used in the field
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or GED AND 18 months of experience at position equivalent.
AGENCY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Ability to perform location and sampling for construction materials sources
+ Possesses familiarity with materials specifications
+ Ability to learn sources and types of materials
+ Ability to read, understand and interpret plans, sketches, location maps, test data and other written materials related to materials investigation
• Ability to repair and maintain, or readily learn to repair and maintain, testing equipment
+ Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations related to material investigation
+ Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with construction and maintenance personnel, local officials and property owners
+ Responds positively to change and new information, changing conditions and unexpected obstacles
+ Displays high standards of ethical conduct, a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment toward completing assignments in a timely manner with minimal supervision
+ Possesses the physical strength and agility necessary to perform the core responsibilities of the job
+ Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain information
+ Demonstrated ability to write reports and correspondence
+ Demonstrated ability to make sound, well-informed decisions
+ Committed to providing quality customer service
+ Must have a valid Driver’s License
AGECNY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
+ Ability to solve problems, and to make recommendations to supervisors regarding solutions to various construction materials related problems
+ Ability to learn to perform mix designs
+ Ability to analyze and solve conflicts
+ Ability to use technology to work more efficiently
• Ability to operate effectively within the policies, procedures and roles of the department
• Possesses familiarity with the operation of the smoothness meter
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBS

Good Employment Standing:
In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
