Motor Vehicle Operator
Required Qualifications:** Per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid Class B NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). In addition, must participate in the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (drug and alcohol testing) as required; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. **(***Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes”).
**Preferred Qualifications:** Working knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of vehicles operated. Working knowledge of simple automotive repair and maintenance procedures. Working knowledge of routes to specific locations normally visited. Ability to physically operate assigned vehicles safely and effectively under various road conditions. Ability to plan routes to specific locations and to properly estimate time required to reach the locations. Ability to perform routine maintenance on vehicles operated. Ability to communicate orally for the purpose of exchanging information.
**Brief Description of Duties:** Motor Vehicle Operators regularly drive any of a variety of motor vehicles including automobiles, buses, trucks, and ambulances in order to transport people, material, and equipment as required. The incumbents may post manifests and other records of goods and people transported in order to document their safe delivery.
+ Drive Mobile Dental Clinic to host sites. Flexible schedule of days and hours as required to accommodate travel time to and from sites.
+ Site visits to ensure adequate facilities and safety. May map routes, itineraries, and points of call.
+ Maintains a log of required maintenance, mileage, and fueling. Moves or carries cargo onto, into, off of or out of the vehicle operated.
+ Must adhere to and maintain manufacturer required maintenance schedule and deliver vehicles for such by working with the program coordinators and maintaining accurate records. Will also collaborate on vehicle appearance maintenance requirements.
+ Operate and maintain vehicle, including fueling, recommended service, and daily inspection checklist.
+ Moves or carries cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point. Assists with assembly and breakdown of steps and banisters. Assemble the chimney. Keep track of waste and water levels. Ensure all bungees are secure and nothing can move during transport.
+ Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
**Special Notes:** These are temporary part time positions (16 hours per week), shift 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., pass days varied. FLSA Nonexempt positions, eligible for overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. Hiring Rate $22.62 per hour.
