    Finance Coordinator - Bone Marrow Transplant

    Position Summary

    At Stony Brook Medicine, our **Finance Coordinator - Bone Marrow Transplant** for the Cancer Center is a valuable member of our team, who oversees the financial aspects of the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program, responsible for providing financial services to all potential and existing transplant recipients, chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR T) patients, donor patients, and assists with various financial projects within the Cancer Center.

    Duties of a Financial Coordinator** **may include the following but are not limited to:

    + Responsible for revenue collection activities for the LLT service.

    + Ensure that all patients receiving hospital services i.e. chemotherapy, transplant, and cellular therapy are pre-certified to receive these services and/or a referral is obtained.

    + Completes insurance verification and regularly reports on insurance status to the appropriate transplant team member(s).

    + Provides the transplant team with relevant details of the patient’s medical insurance and assist in coordinating care with insurance carriers to secure complete benefit coverage.

    + Confirms primary and secondary payers and identifies which contract/plan(s) will provide payment throughout the phases of the transplant care and obtain authorization as needed.

    + Develop a system to track and resolve denials for services with patient account team.

    + Facilitate communication between administration, billing, clinical, and financial team members to capture billing and ensure correct billing codes for procedures and testing are applied.

    + Performs billing verification on all procedures related to bone marrow and stem cell transplantation.

    + Keep current with CMS guidelines and other third-party carriers for patients referred to the Bone Marrow Transplant service.

    + Ensure procurement charges are coded into DRG.

    + Record keeping for the purchase and procurement of stem cell, bone marrow, cord blood, immune effector cells, and HLA typing.

    + Review charges with BMT Program Manager and manage care departments for hospital and physician charges accrued.

    + Report and track yearly budgets for Bone Marrow Transplant Program and Stem Cell Laboratory.

    + Report and track administrative charges to Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, Stem Cell Laboratory Fund and Donor Fund.

    + Participate in discussions in conjunction with Laboratory Administration for contracting with specialty laboratories for tests not performed at University Hospital.

    + Provide statistical reporting on all financial aspects of Bone Marrow Transplant Program (preparing financial reports, projections, and financial analysis).

    + Develop, maintain, and supervise a financial counseling program for all transplant patients.

    + Assist the clinical trial office with planning, billing, and other aspects related to Bone Marrow Transplant / Cell Therapy clinical trials.

    + Timely data entry on the Optum website for specific Optum transplant recipients.

    + Enters charges for stem cell processing lab procedures, which includes billing products received through the National Marrow Donor Program or equivalent.

    + Remain current on all transplant procedures, policies, reimbursement, and payment processes.

    + Other miscellaneous financial responsibilities as required for operational needs and services performed within the Cancer Center.

    + Bring forth any outstanding patient financial issues to the BMT Program Manager to be addressed accordingly.

    + Meets routinely with department leaders to report status and progress of financial planning for recipients and donors.

    + Participate in weekly transplant meetings, BMT program quality, and registry meetings. Participate in Transplant Financial Coordinators Association (TFCA) and other professional organization committees to gain further knowledge of transplant reimbursement and manage care policies.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field

    + At least 3 years of financial experience in a hospital/practice setting, patient access and/or related patient -facing customer service healthcare revenue cycle role with at least 2 years working experience in insurance verification and authorizations

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Prior Experience in a Transplant Department, Donor Services

    + Bilingual in English and Spanish

    + Billing experience, Accounts Receivable, Hospital Patient Access/ Registration experience

    + Familiarity with Medical Insurance benefits

    + Knowledge of medical terminology

    + Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas on the premises.

    + This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.

    + This function/position maybe designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities.

    + Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services

    * + Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $104,040 - $124,848 / year.

     

    The above salary range represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

    Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

    + Location pay for UUP full-time positions ($4000)
