Position Overview
The Human Resources Generalist administers the end-to-end operational HR functions, including but not limited to payroll administration, benefits, recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and HR policies and practices. The position provides high-quality delivery of HR support across all stages of the employee life cycle and demonstrates Mustad values, showing respect for and engagement with co-workers, especially as they contribute to a quality product and organizational success.
Essential Job Functions (required duties and responsibilities) To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
+ Assists with benefits administration, including interfacing with the benefits broker and providing input regarding employee benefit plans, including COBRA administration and wellness programs. Responsible for planning, scheduling, annual enrollment sessions, and responding to employee questions.
+ Troubleshoots and monitors issues employees may have with various benefit plans and HRIS platforms.
+ Manages leaves of absence, ensuring employees receive pertinent information and complete all necessary forms for medical/personal or worker’s compensation leaves. Ensures time off is monitored for ongoing required documentation and return-to-work status is monitored and communicated to department managers.
+ Executes and processes biweekly payroll along with ownership of all payroll activities, including reporting.
+ Assists with or performs all aspects of recruiting, from working with department managers to identifying staffing needs, initiating postings and monitoring applications/resumes, preparing offer letters, ensuring all necessary pre-placement screenings are completed, and notifying candidates of position status.
+ Plans and implements an onboarding program for new hires to ensure their initial understanding of benefits, enrollments, digital platforms, company policies and procedures, etc. Likewise, coordinate off-boarding activities to ensure a smooth transition. Enlists participation from various departments for an overall organizational view.
+ Coordinates and plans employee recognition, celebration events, etc.
+ Maintains and updates necessary legal postings within Mustad’s facilities, including but not limited to MN state law posters and workers compensation information, and works closely with the QESH (quality, environmental, safety & health) department to provide information for OSHA logs.
+ Ensure proper documentation is completed and filed for each employee, maintaining and updating electronic employment files.
+ Oversees and partners with Finance in performing payroll processes and compliance audits.
+ Comfortable utilizing and analyzing benchmarking data and preparing HR metrics and reporting.
+ Performs other duties as requested by management.
Education, Experience, and Skills Requirements
+ B.S. degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field
+ 3+ years of human resource generalist duties, including benefits administration and recruitment
+ Proven interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with all levels of employees
+ Effective written and verbal communication skills with all levels of organization
+ Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software
+ Expert proficiency in Excel
+ Experience with payroll processing
+ Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, and be a team player
+ Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws, regulations, and compliance
Desirable Skills/Attributes (preferred but not required)
+ HR certification is strongly preferred.
+ Proficiency with ADP
+ Spanish proficiency
Physical Demands
+ Extended time sitting, standing and viewing computer screen(s)
+ Infrequent lifting up to 25 lbs.
Work Environment
+ Office setting in manufacturing/distribution facility environment
+ Infrequent domestic and international travel
+ Some exposure to plant and warehouse environments, including heat, humidity, dust, fumes, gases, toxic/caustic chemicals, airborne particles, and significantly loud noise; Exposure to moving mechanical parts online, as well as moving equipment throughout the factory or warehouse
+ Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), which the company provides, following all safety and SOP regulations and procedures, including the Mustad Performance System (MPS).
