About the Work Unit
-The Office of School Safety (OSS) assists schools in preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from all types of emergencies and crisis situations.
-The OSS comprises three units: The Colorado School Safety Resource Center (CSSRC/Center), the Grants Unit and the Crisis Response Unit.
-The Center provides resources, training, and technical assistance to foster safe, positive, and successful learning environments where early intervention occurs to prevent crisis situations. This includes, but is not limited to a resource website, providing regional conferences and training in
school safety issues, and a newsletter. The Center works with an advisory board, including various representatives such as the Department of Education, the Department of Public Health and Environment, the Department of Behavioral Health, and law enforcement agencies.
-The Grants Unit manages state grants provided by the Colorado General Assembly and assists schools in finding additional grants.
- The Crisis Response Unit trains school professionals in crisis response and is available, on a limited basis, to respond to critical incidents in schools when requested.
-The mission of the Colorado School Safety Resource Center (CSSRC) is to assist educators, students, parents, emergency responders, and community organizations to create safe and positive school environments for all Colorado students in prek-12 and higher education schools.
About the Job
This position is a school safety generalist with expertise on both psychological and physical safety for school personnel who will be able to assist schools on most matters of school safety but will also know when further information and/or expertise is necessary from the main headquarters of the CSSRC.
Work Environment
Work unit core business hours Mon-Fri, 8 am-5 pm.
Approximately 85% spent in the field, 15% spent in the office.
Will have access to a fleet vehicle for work-related travel.
Travel will be required during work hours throughout the assigned Colorado region.
Overnight travel is required and averages approximately three (3) nights per month.

Key Responsibilities:
Review, Select, Develop, and Provide Physical and Psychological Safety Resources for the Assigned Rural Community
Overall responsibility for the physical and psychological safety resources and training including program management, data collection and expertise for the schools in this Regional Training Consultant’s catchment area.
Coordinate and Collaborate with Local and State Agencies
Position is responsible to not only provide services around emergency management and psychological safety to schools but to coordinate and collaborate with all local and state entities providing similar services to the schools in the Regional Training Consultant’s catchment area.
Support Overall Work of the Center/Other Duties as Assigned
Supports the overall school safety work of the Center by assisting with trainings the legislative report and other duties as assigned by the Director. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications
Seven (7) years of professional behavioral or mental health experience with youth/or youth in k-12 public or private schools will substitute for education requirement.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field and three (3) years of professional behavioral or mental health experience with youth/or youth in K-12 public or private schools.
OR
Advanced degree and two (2) years of full time professional behavioral or mental health experience with youth/or youth in K-12 public or private schools.
Required Competencies
+ Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbally and in writing, including the ability to question, and work effectively at all levels within and outside CDPS.
+ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
+ Ability to write reports, business correspondence and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
+ Demonstrated ability to problem solve and work collaboratively with agency employees across multiple divisions and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
+ Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and utilize graphs to display statistical results.
+ Must be able to assume responsibility, initiate action, and work independently simultaneously while fitting into a team environment as characterized by shared accountabilities.
+ Must have the ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects and work under pressure, and meet commitments within strict time frames.
+ Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, customer service, interpersonal skills and communication and emotional intelligence while working with team members and CDPS customers.

+ A masters degree;
+ Additional years of professional experience in schools;
+ Leadership experience preferred;
+ Ability to work independently with little supervision;
+ Ability to build networks and partnerships;
+ The applicant must have demonstrated knowledge and background in current school safety issues and best practice recommendations;
+ Expertise in school emergency operations planning and management.
Conditions of Employment
+ Must be a Colorado resident at time of application.
+ Must have a valid Colorado driver's license. State vehicles will be available to reserve and checkout from CDPS Denver office. This position does not have a specifically assigned vehicle. Percentage of time traveling, and any additional travel requirements of this position: 50% of the position is spent traveling.
