As an Interpreter at PHC, you will provide comprehensive interpretation and translation for non-English speaking people, their families, and health center staff.

This position typically works at PHC East Side Clinic and is scheduled Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM. You may occasionally be needed to cover other shifts or to work at other PHC clinics in Ames, Des Moines, and Marshalltown. Mileage reimbursement and/or an out of town travel bonus may apply.

What You Will Do

+ Provides accurate and effective interpretation of the patient or client encounter, including medical or dental procedures. Interaction may occur in person and/or on the telephone.

+ Explains written documents, correspondence and brochures to ensure understanding of patients/clients.

+ Provides information and consultation to health center staff regarding cultural or ethnic issues.

+ Prioritizes patient appointments according to guidelines and achieves visit expectations of a minimum of 9 patient visits per session.

+ Refers patient concerns/issues to appropriate Patient Care Team member.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You Will Need

+ High School Diploma or equivalent.

+ A minimum of 1 year experience as interpreter and translator.

+ Bilingual in specified language and familiarity with culture involved.

+ Basic computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, EMR and internet-based application.

+ Ability to explain written documents in another language

+ Excellent customer service skills.

+ Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to apply critical thinking.

+ Demonstrates professionalism with ability to remain calm in all situations and show empathy.

+ Strong interpersonal skills with ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals.

+ Organization and prioritization skills.

+ Team oriented with ability to work collaboratively and build/maintain professional relationships at all levels.

+ Detail oriented with high degree of accuracy

Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $15.50-19.40. Candidates with extensive related experience may be considered for additional compensation up to the pay range maximum of $23.25 per hour.
