    Position Overview and Responsibilities:

    In carrying out the duties of this position, the incumbent is expected at all times to be aware of and abide by the Department’s Standards of Conduct, as well as any and all departmental and/or work unit rules, directives, policies, procedures, and/or general orders applicable to performing the duties of this position.

     

    This position conducts inspections at assigned basic or small facilities, as defined by the specific program, pursuant applicable Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Code and/or reviews and evaluates permit applications for conformance to State and Federal rules and regulations. Writes reports on outcome to inspections as required. The work requires conducting site inspections, completing data entry in applicable databases, providing compliance assistance to regulated entities, and participation in outreach events.

     

    + Reviews and makes recommendations on reports, scientific, technical or legal documents.

    + Provides compliance/technical assistance as needed and/or Regulatory assistance to permittee, Company representatives, other department programs, delegated local programs, other interested parties and ES-I staff.

    + Keeps applicable databases and Oculus updated as required for facilities/projects assigned.

    + Recommends enforcement actions as appropriate. Drafts enforcement documents and coordinates enforcement meetings.

    + Provides outreach and/or compliance assistance to medium or moderately complicated facilities as needed.

    + Attends and participates in cross-training activities.

    + May volunteer to dive and/or snorkel; must have prior approval and meet the diving and/or snorkeling validation requirements in accordance with the DEP Underwater Operations Manual.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Ability to understand and apply applicable regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.

    + Ability to interact with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.

    + Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

    + Ability to evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific and technical data.

    + Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences

    + Ability to work independently.

    + Ability to meet established performance standards as identified in the District performance standards document.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + At least 4 years of verifiable related experience. Post-secondary degrees may be used as an alternative for the required years of experience on a year-for-year basis. A credential evaluation report from an approved agency (https://www.fldoe.org/teaching/certification/foreign-trained-grads/approved-credential-evaluation-agencie.stml) must be submitted along with all foreign degrees.

    + Maintain a valid Class E Driver’s License

    Position of Special Trust Requirement:

    This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

    Pay:

    $44,260.08 annually
