Position Summary
Reporting to the CHIEF SUSTAINABILITY OFFICER, the Sr. Director of Organizational Effectiveness is a key leadership position for the Office of Sustainability (OOS) and for the Technical Operations and Risk organization overall.
This role will be responsible for elevating the OOS performance through insights, future-ready capabilities and standardized processes and performance metrics. This role will work with the OOS LT to develop enabling processes and to facilitate the development of insights, strategies, goals, performance metrics, standards, and positions. This role will be directly responsible for developing and deploying OOS programs for overseeing compliance with legal requirements and OOS standards and due diligence for new acquisitions and divestitures. This role will be directly responsible for developing and deploying the OOS digital, capability building and employee engagement strategies as well as the OOS project management and budget/LRFP processes.
The Sr. Director will need to create strong relationships with LT peers and the Extended Leadership Team to fully understand the needs of the business and enterprise stakeholders and to leverage and optimize capabilities, processes and initiatives across OOS and TO&R,
The role will also strategically partner with similar roles in other TO&R functions and Global Employee Health & Well Being to benchmark and leverage insights, learnings, processes and talent.
Responsibilities:
+ Elevating the OOS Strategic Priorities and Operational Effectiveness – Facilitates the development of, in partnership with the OOS LT, of insights, strategies, performance metrics, goals, procedures and positions to enable and elevate the OOS outcomes focused on efficiency and optimization of resources. partner with the OOS LT to identify needs to pivot and/or accelerate plans to address strategy gaps.
+ This would include aligning, executing and optimizing core enabling processes in areas such as OOS strategy, goal setting, performance monitoring, standards and positions, assurance, data systems and analytics, insights & reporting, capability building, resource modeling, due diligence/integration, project management, and budgeting/LRFP for the Office of Sustainability to efficiently and effectively deliver agreed upon results.
+ Establishes department budget and controls all systems to operate within established budget parameters. Formulates organizational policies, goals, and objectives based on best practices within the industry.
+ Responsible for managing operational aspects of the teams reporting into this role (e.g., budget, performance, and compliance), as well as implementing workforce and succession plans to meet business needs.
+ **Due Diligence & Integration** on behalf of OOS for enterprise acquisitions, licensing agreements and divestitures. Lead a team of experts accountable for the Sustainability and EHS due diligence of new acquisitions and divestitures, transferring, implementing and embedding J&J OOS requirements into these new companies aligned to business timelines to address and manage risks / liabilities and contribute to the success of the new business
+ Oversee all OOS processes that relate to final divestiture of facilities to ensure compliant closure and to ensure there is no risk of future liabilities related to property.
+ **OOS Compliance & Assurance** - Oversee adherence to environmental, health, and safety and sustainability regulations and internal standards on a global scale. This involves leading a team focused on designing assurance programs, standards and positions and driving continuous improvement in EHS and Sustainability performance across the organization.
+ Accountable for shaping and implementing standardized/streamlined approaches across OOS knowledge management and improve the mining of data for insights that feed into strategy and performance improvements.
+ **OOS Digital** – Shape and continuously refine OOS’ digital strategy in alignment with the organization's goals and technology trends. Identify opportunities for innovation, and optimization across digital channels.
+ Oversee data and analytics technology improvements and innovation in HOW Sustainability and EHS are deployed
+ Build predictive analytics capabilities
+ Enhance risk mitigation management systems
+ Ensure coordinated efforts with JJT and TO&R’s Technology Services leads
+ **Develop future-ready capability building strategy and workplan** to assure the Office of Sustainability is capable of supporting new innovations and business models and is abreast of capabilities required to propel J&J’s OOS offerings to the next level to best address the needs of J&J
+ **Employee Engagement –** Oversee OOS strategy and implementation of Business and Employee Engagement programs and initiatives to drive a culture of Sustainability, Safety and Risk Management across the Enterprise
+ **People Leadership** - Directs Directors, Senior Managers, and occasionally senior individual contributors in a matrix environment, and is accountable for meaningful career development conversations and regular coaching and feedback.
Qualifications
Required
+ Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Technology, or Business.
+ 15+ years of combined experience in Risk Management, Supply Chain, and/or EHS.
+ 10+ years leading global teams in a matrixed organization.
+ Proven success in supporting strategic initiatives and operational excellence.
+ Strong knowledge of global sustainability and EHS regulations and standards.
+ Excellent communication skills and executive presence.
+ Experience with digital transformation, data analytics, and technology integration.
+ Financial acumen with budget and long-range planning experience.
+ Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
+ Background in change management and capability building.
+ Demonstrated commitment to talent development and succession planning.
Preferred
+ Advanced degree (e.g., Master’s, MBA, or technical discipline).
+ Strong project management skills.
+ Familiarity with global sustainability frameworks.
+ Passion for sustainability and a positive, solutions-oriented mindset.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
173,000 - 299,000
