Ready to grow your career in patient care? UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a part-time Patient Care Technician (PCT) Specialist to join our Pre/Post-Operative Unit, where you'll support nurses in preparing and recovering patients before and after surgery.
Schedule: Two 10-hour shifts per week, Monday through Friday, between 5:30 AM and 9:00 PM

Responsibilities:
+ Demonstrates understanding of cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in the health professions. Promotes safety for both patients and self in the workplace.
+ Reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate department promptly.
+ Participates in unit-wide activities, including answering call lights and phones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
+ Performs core UPMC Patient Care Technician (PCT) duties, including:
+ Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning, repositioning, and transporting patients.
+ Point-of-care testing: blood glucose monitoring, weights, vital signs, intake & output, and telemetry application/reapplication.
+ Safety measures: applying/removing TEDs/SCDs, fall prevention, and pressure injury prevention.
+ Basic procedures: simple dressings, restraint application/removal, bladder scans, and specimen collection.
+ Advanced procedures: IV and Foley catheter insertion/removal, straight catheterization, phlebotomy, and "Ticket to Ride" transport readiness.
+ Must complete all required competencies, including at least one advanced skill based on departmental need: basic arrhythmia recognition, complex wound care, 12-lead EKG, or NG tube clamping/removal.
+ Provides patient and family instruction under RN supervision.
+ Applies, monitors, and removes restraints according to physician orders and hospital policy.
+ Identifies learning needs and communicates them to leadership. Seeks guidance in planning and prioritizing work.
+ Takes ownership of assigned tasks and contributes to department efficiency and quality improvement initiatives.
+ Documents patient care accurately in the medical record.
+ Transports cardiac-monitored patients and may assist with Foley catheter and IV insertion/removal under RN guidance.
+ Completes clerical duties as needed.
+ May be present in medication storage areas or transport medications between departments as part of patient transport. Medication handling is limited to transport only.
+ Education:
+ High School Diploma or GED required.
+ Experience:
+ Option A: 2 years of general healthcare experience and meeting Patient Care Technician - Senior title requirements.
+ Option B: 1 year of general healthcare experience and enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with at least one completed clinical rotation.
+ Option C: 1 year of general healthcare experience and a completed bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
+ Professional Development:
+ Completion of an annual professional contribution (to be determined after hire).
+ Successful completion of Patient Care Technician Specialist class.
+ Successful completion of eRecord training.
+ Preferred Qualifications:
+ Nursing Student who has completed one clinical rotation.
+ Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification, or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program.
+ Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course, with annual competency.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ CPR: Required based on American Heart Association (AHA) standards, including both a didactic and skills demonstration component, within 30 days of hire.
+ ACLS: Preferred.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
+ Act 34 clearance required.
