Job Description

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to become a key player in preparing clients for successful reentry into society as a Senior Residential Officer at the Iowa Department of Corrections.
As a Senior Residential Officer in our 24-hour community-based corrections facility, you will be a direct service provider, engaging in high-contact interactions with clients. You will play an essential role in eliciting and supporting pro-social behaviors, with a focus on programming that fosters personal growth and reduces the risk of reoffending.
You will be part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team, working collaboratively to observe and assess client behaviors and interactions. Your exceptional communication skills and ability to build quality relationships with clients will be essential in driving positive change.
Your responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of tasks to include:
• Serving as a team lead to assist management while providing leadership to Residential Officers.
• Serving as an advanced-level direct service provider in a 24-hour community-based corrections facility, utilizing and modeling Core Correctional Practices (CCP).
• Enforcement of safety and security standards of a residential facility.
• Ongoing training of Residential Officers.
• Documentation and communication of observations and information to assist in the development of individual client treatment plans and implementation and support of those plans in an effort to assist clients with successful integration into the community.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
+ Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in any field.
+ Two years full-time work experience in a human services or criminal justice related field.
+ A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number two), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
+ Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 18 months of full-time work as a Residential Officer.
