    Description

    The Payroll Audit Analyst strengthens compliance by performing both **mandated audits** (internal/external, SOX, financial) and **proactive internal reviews** to identify risks before they become issues. This role ensures payroll accuracy, supports SOX readiness, and assists with payroll processing to maintain compliance and continuity.

    Primary Job Functions:

    Description

    1. Responsible for end-to-end payroll processing.

    2. Conduct scheduled audits of payroll processes, earnings, deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings.

    3. Perform ad-hoc and proactive internal audits to identify discrepancies before they escalate.

    4. Document findings and prepare audit reports with corrective action recommendations

    5. Test and monitor payroll internal controls to ensure SOX compliance.

    6. Maintain audit-ready documentation for internal and external auditors.

    7. Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company policies.

    8. Detect payroll errors, anomalies, or policy violations through detailed reviews.

    9. Partner with payroll staff and management to resolve issues and implement corrective actions.

    10. Track remediation efforts to confirm closure of audit findings.

    11. Verify payroll data accuracy across multiple systems (timekeeping, payroll, HRIS, GL).

    12. Reconcile reports to ensure all transactions are complete and compliant

    13. Develop and maintain audit checklists, dashboards, and metrics for tracking payroll accuracy.

    14. Provide management with trend analyses to identify recurring issues and prevent reoccurrence.

    15. Provide backup assistance in payroll processing during peak times or absences.

    16. Support special projects, acquisitions, or system implementations requiring payroll audits.

    17. Recommend and implement process enhancements to strengthen payroll controls.

    18. Identify automation opportunities to reduce manual errors and increase efficiency.

    Education, Experience and Certification:

    Required: High School Diploma

     

    Required: 4 Years of Job Related to Payroll

     

    Preferred: FPC or CPP Certification

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Knowledge of payroll processes including data entry, pay calculations, tax and benefits, geographical location taxation rules, wage, and hour laws, etc. preferred. Third-party payroll vendor and HRIS system experience desired.

    + Ability to evaluate and communicates unusual and/or complex content in a concise and logical way.

    + In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

    + Advanced organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.

    + Ability to use query and report generation tools.

    + Union payroll/Health, Welfare and Pension knowledge

    Travel Requirements:

    + What percentage of their role do they have to leave their base location? Base location is a specific office or home location. Remote role. Travel less than 5% possibility.
