    Job Description Summary

    The Senior Graduate Medical Education (GME) Advisor is a key leadership role focused on strengthening and expanding ACOM’s relationships with graduate medical education (GME) programs. The position involves advising affiliated hospitals on GME program development, supporting existing residency programs, and serving as a liaison between ACOM and its clinical partners.

    Job Description

    Essential Functions

    The Senior GME Advisor shall perform the following duties under the direction of the Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness:

    Support New GME Program Development

     

    + Provides direct guidance to ACOM-affiliated hospitals in establishing new GME programs.

    + Assists with achieving Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accreditation in collaboration with the Alabama Medical Education Consortium.

     

    Maintain and Strengthen Existing Affiliations

     

    + Conducts annual in-person meetings with each affiliated residency program.

    + Touches base via phone quarterly with each residency program to sustain communication, offer support, and address emerging needs.

    + Offers mentorship, site visits, and faculty development to support program quality and growth.

     

    Facilitate Collaboration and Innovation

     

    + Serves as a liaison among ACOM divisions and affiliated GME programs.

    + Collaborates with Clinical Sciences, Clinical Resources, Student Services, Institutional Effectiveness, and other ACOM units to:

    + Supports the development of innovative and high-quality resident education practices.

    + Supports research and scholarly activity among residents.

    + Assists with continuing medical education (CME) development and coordination, including speaker identification and credit approval.

    + Promotes student-to-residency transitions, including feedback loops and quality improvement efforts to increase the number of ACOM students placed in ACOM-affiliated residency programs.

     

    Monitor Trends and Promote Best Practices

     

    + Engages in continuous professional development through literature review.

    + Shares current trends and insights with ACOM and its affiliated residency programs.

     

    Serve as ACOM Representative

     

    + Represents ACOM in a positive and professional manner.

    + Participates in interviews, professional meetings, and serve as a liaison with academic institutions, government agencies, and other relevant organizations as requested by the Dean or Vice President.

    + Performs other duties as requested by the Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness.
