Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced budget analyst to join our team. You will work with a team that supports strategic resource allocation decisions that reflect U-M's longstanding priorities of academic excellence, access and affordability, and fiscal discipline. You will backfill responsibilities for team members who have a portion of their time reassigned to support strategic campus initiatives. This will involve stepping into key functions to ensure continuity and high-quality budget operations during this important time period. This is a three-year term-limited appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on continued funding, your satisfactory performance and conduct, and the availability of work. This team works in a fast paced, dynamic office with a supportive and positive climate and culture leading to additional growth and opportunities for success. You will gain a comprehensive view of the University of Michigan and higher education and develop an understanding of the connection between mission and budget. You will provide reporting, analytic and technical expertise for all phases of the annual budget process including tuition, student enrollment and financial aid, faculty and human resources, budget and finance. You will report to the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic and Budgetary Affairs and Executive Director, Office of Budget and Planning.

Responsibilities*
+ Lead budget planning and management for the $3B annual general fund; advise senior leadership on budget decisions.
+ Collaborate with campus partners on long-term planning, tuition, cost containment, benefits, and financial aid.
+ Develop, maintain, and enhance budget models, tools, and systems; implement improvements based on technology and process changes.
+ Analyze financial activity, perform complex cost and statistical analyses, and prepare reports to guide resource allocation.
+ Serve as a liaison between the Office of Budget & Planning and departments, providing guidance and resolving financial issues.
+ Represent the office across campus and with central offices, fostering collaboration and high-quality outcomes.
+ Make independent, informed decisions on significant budget matters.
+ Support special projects and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
+ Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a business-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ 10 years experience in financial analysis, budgeting and forecasting
+ Extensive experience using advanced spreadsheet functions and managing complex databases
+ Proficient use of financial analysis tools and software (e.g., Business Objects)
+ Demonstrated experience creating data queries and generating reports to support financial insights and decisions
+ In-depth knowledge of budgeting and variance analysis
+ Demonstrated experience recognizing and investigating data anomalies

This is a hybrid position based at our Ann Arbor campus, with a combination of on-site and remote work.
