Job Description:

Schnabel is seeking a temporary full-time intern in the Gladstone, MI office with a Civil, Geological, or Mining Engineering background to support our growing business. The emphasis for this position is broadening the intern’s practical knowledge and experience by applying professional principles to real problems under the supervision of senior engineering personnel. The position will typically be held from **mid-May through mid-August of 2026.** Other timeframes may be considered if necessary.
Job Responsibilities:
+ Work with project teams on civil, geotechnical, geological, or mining engineering projects that involve CAD design, construction oversight, field work, data evaluation, engineering analysis and report preparation.
+ Assist in planning and performing geotechnical investigations and analyses
+ Assist in preparation of proposals, reports, plans, and specifications.
+ Conduct field assignments, such as site mapping, logging soil borings and/or rock core, and assisting in field inspections.
+ Observe construction and perform materials testing
Required Skills/Experience:
+ Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited Civil/Geological/Mining Engineering Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program is preferred. Enrollment in other college engineering or relevant science programs may be considered.
+ Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field is desirable but not required
+ Possess good oral and written communication skills and computer literacy
+ Ability to work with direction as part of a team
+ Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work
+ Desire and willingness to work outdoors at undeveloped sites and construction sites
+ Ability to routinely lift up to 40 pounds
Preferred Skills/Experience:
+ Junior, senior, and graduate students
+ Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field
Other Requirements:
+ Must possess a valid driver’s license as driving is an essential function of the job
+ Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
+ Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
The compensation range for a Civil Engineering Intern is between $18.00 to $25.00. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
