Position Title : Human Resource Benefits Specialist (Total Rewards)
Alpha Split - (A-M) and (N-Z)
(Non-Unit Position, Non-Exempt, Hourly)
Salary Range : $37,500-$45,000
Contract Length : Twelve Months
Immediate Supervisor : Director of Benefits
Basic Function:
Responsible for handling and providing support for various Human Resources employee programs within the South Bend Community School Corporation. Assist with coordinating the day-to-day operations of
group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, long-term disability, life insurance, FMLA, COBRA, retirement plans, worker’s compensation and cafeteria plan).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Provides excellent customer service and assists in monitoring benefit programs with analytical and technical support.
+ Assist in administration of the benefit programs; help monitor current status of employees, retirees and dependents utilizing benefits, terminating coverage as necessary and implementing COBRA.
+ Administration of FMLA, various leaves, sick bank requests.
+ Maintain leave records in the HR system and INPRS.
+ Initial contact for worker’s compensation, filing claims and monitoring work status. 6. Assist in administration of retirement benefits and pension programs with INPRS. 7. Assist in compliance oversight of benefit programs, including compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, and corporate governance, IRS 1095 reporting.
+ Assist in new-employee orientations; open enrollment; roll out of new benefit plans or changes, and answer general benefits questions, process enrollments.
+ Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database as needed associated with employee benefits.
+ Assists in job rating, ranking, questionnaires and job descriptions.
+ Maintain billing for medical, dental, vision and COBRA benefits.
+ Participate in annual retirement and open enrollment seminars.
+ Maintain confidentiality, sense of humor and professionalism in daily operations.
+ Assist with job ranking, classification and job description updates.
+ Perform other related duties as required and assigned by the unit head.
+ Assist department with various research or special projects.
Qualifications :
+ Bachelor’s Degree in business, human resources or related field is preferred, but will consider directly applicable experience in lieu of education.
+ Minimum of two years experience in human resources, education or instruction, employee benefits, payroll, PHR or SHRM-CP Certification.
+ In depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees. 4. Must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks with continued attention to detail and confidentiality.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
+ Strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills. 2. Ability to adapt to changing work priorities.
+ Ability to work with conflicting deadlines and exercise good judgment in a variety of situations.
+ Ability to effectively meet and interact with diverse groups, work cooperatively with others, and handle stressful situations.
+ Ability to use tact, discretion, poise, and diplomacy when representing the superintendent and implementing the mission and goals of the school corporation.
+ Ability to work with constant interruptions and to maintain confidentiality. 7. Word, Excel and PowerPoint. AS400 a plus.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift, push and pull up to 25 lbs., sit, stand, walk, speak, hear and use close vision. Works in standard office and school building environments. Must be able to work regularly scheduled hours. Must be able to handle stress.
