    PURPOSE

    The Assistant Director serves as the Student Ombuds for the campus, coordinates services to assist students experiencing extenuating circumstances, serves as a case manager, and provides leadership in the absence of the Associate Dean of Students.

    DESCRIPTION

    Functional Area 1: Administration

     

    Percent Effort: 35%

    Job Duties

    + Serve on university committees and assigned special projects.

    + Assist Dean of Students Leadership in managing emergencies involving students.

    + Assist with strategic planning for Care & Assistance. Participates in developing departmental strategic plans based on department goals.

    + Supervise graduate assistants, interns, and practicum students for Care & Assistance.

     

    Functional Area 2: Student Ombuds

     

    Percent Effort: 35%

    Job Duties

    + Assists students in understanding policies and procedures relevant to their situation and works to identify solutions for the student in an informal and neutral capacity.

    + Identifies issues and trends to be addressed by Dean of Students Office to remove barriers to student success.

    + Serves as Parent Liaison and assist with expanding programs and support for parenting students

     

    Functional Area 3: Case Management

     

    Percent Effort: 30%

    Job Duties

    + Meets with students impacted by extenuating circumstances and collect supporting documentation. Provides information on potential solutions, relevant policies and procedures to consider, and refers to on and off campus resources.

    + Communicates with faculty on behalf of students experiencing extenuating circumstances and intervenes on behalf of an incapacitated student who is unable to take necessary steps to resolve enrollment issues or coursework.

    + Collaborates with other case managers on campus to resolve student issues and expand campus resources.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    + Bachelor’s degree.

    + Six years of related experience.

    + Additional education may be used as a substitute for the minimum experience requirement:

    + Master’s degree with Four (4) year related experience.

    + Doctoral degree and Two (2) year related experience

    + Knowledge, skills, and abilities

    + Experience in case management, ombuds, or basic needs programs.

    + Strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills.

    + Strong analytical skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or related field.

    + Five years of related professional experience in higher education.

    + Experience working in a university setting with students.

    + Strong presentation skills.

    + Experience with policy review.

    + Experience with social media and marketing.

     

    SALARY $60,000 Annually approximately

     

    + $5,000 Monthly
