Summary This position is in the Pipe Shop of the Facility Management Service, located in the VA Loma Linda Health Care System (VALLHCS). The Pipefitter repairs and maintains water, sewer, steam, natural gas, medical gas, and fire sprinkler systems; including: Water heaters, regulating valves, fixtures, and back flow devices. The Pipefitter is required to read blue Prints and read instructions, and specifications related to pipe fitting. Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to: Repairing and maintaining water, sewer, steam, natural gas, medical gas, and fire sprinkler systems; including: hot water heaters, regulating valves, fixtures, and back flow devices. Read blue Prints and read and interpret instructions, and specifications as related to pipe fitting. Repair and installation of domestic water systems; fire sprinkler system piping; repair of valves, regulators, filter systems, toilets, sinks, and associated piping. Performs plumbing and steam fitting work necessary in the installation of equipment. Assists with the installation/repair of mechanical pumping systems; including, sump pumps, brine pumps, condensate pumps, and pulverizing systems. Have knowledge of medical gas systems. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
