    Clinic Assignment UVA Teen and Young Adult Health Center Eating Disorder Interdisciplinary Team (locations may include: Battle Building, UVA Health Riverside, and telehealth).

     

    Responsible for conducting face to face sessions with adolescent and young adult patients and their families who are struggling with the full spectrum of eating disorders: (Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, Binge Eating Disorder, Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders) in order to complete thorough assessments, develop treatment plans, provide evidence-based therapy, crisis intervention, case management, and referrals when indicated.

     

    • Complete a thorough initial interdisciplinary assessment and be competent in providing eating disorder diagnoses and other mental health diagnoses that may be present

    • Provide evidence-based interventions to patients receiving eating disorder care at UVA including Family Based Treatment (FBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

    • Work closely with an eating disorder interdisciplinary team including mental health providers, medical providers, and registered dietitians. The full team meets weekly to discuss cases and collaborate on care.

    • Engage in routine supervision and care collaboration for the treatment of eating disorders.

    • Refer to higher level of care and community resources as needed for further treatment of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, and substance abuse. Acts as liaison between UVA Health and outside agencies/legal authorities and referral sources. The eating disorder program has an RN care coordinator devoted to the team to support this.

    • Engages In crisis intervention including safety planning with patients and their families

    • Documents all interventions in accordance with UVA and Social Work Policy Procedure and Guidelines and regulatory requirements.

    • Participates in education/research activities.

    • Participates in in-service and staff development activities by attendance, serving on planning committees, and/or offering topics for pertinent educational programs.

    • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

    + Provides direct social work service to patients and families and/or groups of patients by providing assistance with social and practical environmental problems.

    + Provides emotional support to patients and families and/or groups of patients who may exhibit feelings of anxiety and stress precipitated by illness and hospitalization.

    + Conducts interventions based on needs identified during initial assessment.

    + Advocates for patient and family wishes when appropriate.

    + Provides emotional support to patient and family during hospitalization.

    + Educates patient and family on the intent of the intervention as needed.

    + Inform care team patient and family of anticipated post-discharge needs.

    + Maintains acceptable working knowledge of resources needed to provide patients with continuity of care before and after discharge.

    + Participates in in-service and staff development activities by attendance serving on planning committees and/or offering topics for pertinent educational programs.

    + Documents all activities relevant to casework discharge planning and follow-up in accordance with UVA and Social Work Policy Procedure and Guidelines and regulatory requirements

    + Participates in education/research activities.

    + Acts as liaison between the hospital and outside agencies/legal authorities and referral sources.

    + Acts as therapist in daily therapy sessions and provides individual counseling/problem solving sessions as needed.

    + In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

    **Experience:** Prior experience in providing therapy to adolescents and young adults is required. Prior experience in crisis intervention and CBT is required. Experience working with patients with eating disorders using a family based treatment approach is preferred. Experience with billing for services is preferred. Prior experience in a healthcare setting is highly desirable.

Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail; ability to hear, speak, see, distinguish colors, read, ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull < 20lbs.     Position Compensation Range: $61,443.20 - $98,300.80 Annual

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education: Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited social work program required

     

    Experience: 3 years’ experience post master’s required.

     

    Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Virginia (LCSW) or applicants with an active license from another state must obtain Virginia LCSW within 18 months of hire date.
