Executive Legal Counsel & Labor Designee (Associate Administrator)
POSITION DETAILS
Bronx Community College, established in 1957, relocated to its current location in 1973, sits on a tranquil and beautiful 44 - acre historic campus in the University Heights section of the Bronx, one of the five vibrant boroughs of New York City. The Executive Legal Counsel to the President/Labor Designee reports directly to the President and provides legal advice on a broad array of issues, including but not limited to: litigation, employment and labor law, compliance and contractual agreements and governance. The Executive Legal Counsel also serves as the College's liaison to the University's Office of Legal Affairs as well as the campus Ethics Officer and Records Access Officer.
The duties of the position include but are not limited to the following:
+ Responsible for the administration and interpretation of the University Bylaws, University and College policies and procedures, College governance and various collective bargaining agreements.
+ Works with attorneys in CUNY's Office of the General Counsel and Office of Human Resources Management and acts as the College's representative at arbitration.
+ Investigates complaints filed from outside agencies; provides records, files, and documents required at legal inquiries and proceedings; assists in proceedings before federal and state courts and administrative agencies; and ensures College compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
+ Provides written and/or oral legal advice to the College Administration and, when appropriate, faculty and staff, in all legal matters affecting the College.
+ Responds to inquiries from the Chair and members of the Labor Management Committee.
+ Serves as the President's representative on the College's Governance and Elections Committee.
+ Serves as the College's Hearing Officer and represents the College at grievance and disciplinary proceedings as assigned.
+ Conducts Ethics Trainings, responds to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) Requests and responds to subpoenas.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned by the President.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years of related experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Candidate must have a JD and be admitted to the N.Y. State Bar.
• J.D. with a minimum of eight years' related experience and at least five years' experience in higher education.
• Demonstrated experience interpreting laws and organizational regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines in a complex regulatory environment.
• Detail oriented, accurate with exceptional critical analysis, research and evaluation skills.
• Strong work ethic, character, and personal integrity to work with the utmost professionalism, discretion, confidentiality and diplomacy.
• Proactive and flexible with the ability to exercise discretion and tack, and use sound judgment to give advice.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a large and varied workload of assignments with conflicting priorities, follow up, and complete work by prescribed deadlines.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary Range $185,000 - $195,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
