    Summary The Laborer provides services within the General Support Shop under the general supervisor of the Supervisory Maintenance Mechanic with the second-level direction provided by the Maintenance Control Manager. In this position, one performs various support duties, which involve trades, facilities, warehousing, and vehicles. Responsibilities Duties of the position include but are not limited to: Operating, controlling, and cleaning heavy power equipment. Using skills for proper hand tools. Working knowledge of process involving several tasks, in restoring site to original conditions. Responsible for completing work after getting initial oral or written instructions. Compliance with instructions and proper performance. Independently completing routine assignments in accordance with general policy, past practice, simple drawling, or specifications. Completing special projects accomplished with periodic review by the supervisor. Providing continued basis of lifting and carrying boxes and items that weight up to 80 pounds 100 pounds and greater with assistance. Lifting and carrying items and similar weights in cramped work areas. Standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring positions. Digging ditches, mowing, shoveling snow and general landscaping. Preforming outside work under various weather conditions. Accomplishing work in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Performing while exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust and dirt. Performing with the known possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts, scrapes and more serious injuries. Following proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (40hrs weekly), Tour Schedule TBD by Service after selection. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Work requires extremely heavy physical effort on a continuous basis to lift and carry boxes and items that weigh up to 80 to 100 pounds and more with assistance, and to lift and carry items and similar weights in cramped work areas. Requires standing, stooping, bending and working in tiring positions. Uses heavy physical effort in digging ditches, mowing, shoveling snow and general landscaping. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
