    Description

As the Capacity Engineering lead for the North American (NA) Sortation Center (SC) network, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our growing network of facilities meets the complex demands of Amazon’s delivery promises and cost-to-serve goals. Our Sortation Centers process packages from fulfillment centers and sort them by delivery zip code for last-mile delivery to our customers. The primary goal of this role is to maximize the mechanical capacity and utilization of the equipment and infrastructure, while ensuring customer needs for on-time and accurate delivery. This requires matching diverse package types and volume types to the optimal SCs based on each facility’s layout, material handling equipment, and processing capabilities. This role provides key mechanical capacity inputs into volume and capacity planning for the network.

Key responsibilities include modeling, calculating, and optimizing various mechanical and processing capacities across various building configurations, each with unique attributes such as equipment, yard size, dock door availability, and staging capacity. You will focus on calculating capacity based on volume demand and physical attribute constraints, optimizing throughput-per-hour, and contributing to strategic initiatives to improve network resilience and flexibility. You will work closely with various Planning, Engineering, Operations, and cross-functional teams.

    Key job responsibilities

    Strategic Planning & Capacity Management:

    - Drive strategic capacity planning for OP1/OP2, incorporating new launches, expansions, and retrofits while providing critical inputs to Long Term Planning (LTP) for comprehensive network build plans

    - Partner with Mid Term Planning (MTP) to optimize network capacity for peak operations, incorporating engineering projects and retrofits

    - Lead capacity calculations and alignments for automation initiatives, ensuring accurate planning and maximum network utilization

    Operational Excellence:

    - Spearhead supply chain optimization initiatives, focusing on throughput enhancement and constraint management across yard, dock, and sorting operations

    - Develop data-driven solutions to identify and resolve operational bottlenecks, improving processing efficiency and adapting to dynamic demand patterns

    - Drive standardization projects across fulfillment centers, emphasizing material handling equipment, dock operations, and yard management

    - Collaborate with Design Engineering to implement automated process paths for unloading, loading, and container management

    Cross-Functional Leadership:

    - Orchestrate partnerships across Planning, Engineering, and Operations teams to evaluate and implement site-specific and network-wide improvements

    - Champion best practice sharing across Capacity Engineering functions, fostering a culture of continuous improvement

    - Translate operational requirements into actionable engineering solutions, maximizing infrastructure utilization

    - Provide mentorship and technical leadership to develop high-performing team members

    Analytics & Risk Management:

    - Lead complex analytical workstreams including scenario planning, construction analysis, and capacity planning

    - Identify and mitigate supply chain risks through collaborative contingency planning

    - Maintain exceptional quality standards across multiple deliverables while meeting stakeholder requirements
