    THE POSITION

    Are you a seasoned civil engineer looking for a new challenge? The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is on the lookout for a Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor specializing in bridges to take on the role of Lead Assistant Structure Control Engineer. In this pivotal role, you will assist in ensuring all bridge and structural construction work is performed safely and in accordance with standard specifications.     DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    As a Lead Assistant Structure Control Engineer, you will engage in resolving structure related problems during construction phases such as field structural problems, fabrication shop issues, design plan issues, specification related issues, and structural material issues, and provide recommendations and guidance regarding problem resolution. You will also p erform thorough reviews of bridge and structural project submittals which may include erection and demolition plans, shop drawings, falsework designs, and much more.

     

    Within this role, you will serve as the Inspector-in-Charge on more complex bridge construction projects. You will be responsible for inspecting project materials and quality to ensure compliance with contract requirements, standards, and specifications, in addition to resolving any field problems as they arise. Courteous and effective communication skills are essential in this position, as you will be tasked with responding to customer complaints and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

    + Full-time employment

    + Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

    + Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis and with approval from management. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    + Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists ; or

    + Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline ; or

    + Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline .

    Special Requirements:

    + This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license.
