The Department of Environmental Quality/Office of Environmental Services has a vacancy.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) mission is to provide service to the people of Louisiana through comprehensive environmental protection in order to promote and protect health, safety and welfare.

Step into a dynamic leadership role where you’ll supervise a dedicated team within the Manufacturing Section of the Air Permits Division. In this position, you’ll be responsible for assigning incoming applications, organizing workloads, and setting clear priorities and deadlines that keep the team’s productivity on track. You’ll monitor staff performance, track productivity, and ensure that deliverables meet strict statutory and regulatory requirements. With your guidance, the team will not only meet deadlines but also uphold the standards of quality, consistency, and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus three years of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR

A master’s degree in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus two years of the experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing; OR

A doctorate in an environmental, biological, atmospheric, chemical, health, nuclear or physical science field, an engineering field, a geography/geosciences field, a natural resources field, or in a statistics or quantitative methods field plus one year of experience in an environmental program, nuclear energy or radiation protection program; Geographic Information Systems (GIS); an environmental, analytical, or research laboratory, LIMS (Lab Integrated Management Systems), or laboratory auditing.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

+ Reviews and improves draft permit actions to ensure regulatory accuracy, consistency, and compliance with applicable requirements.

+ Provides technical guidance to subordinates on air permitting procedures, regulatory applicability, performance testing, recordkeeping, and reporting.

+ Oversees performance evaluations through the PES process, documenting achievements, identifying improvement areas, and setting clear work goals.

+ Recommends corrective or disciplinary actions when staff performance does not meet expectations, ensuring accountability and alignment with standards.

+ Supports team development by fostering regulatory understanding, technical competence, and continuous improvement in permitting practices.

Compensation:This position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) listed below. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The job tittle and salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
