    We’re looking for individuals to join our legal division — a proactive, people-focused team working to attract and support the talent that drives our mission forward. The specialist will serve as the principle assistant to the director of the Compliance Programs Section (CPS) for the Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Public Safety Services, and will be responsible for assisting in the planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating of all aspects of the CPS to assure that PSS is in compliance with the federally mandated discrimination laws which are set forth in Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA), the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) as amended, the Equal Pay Act of 1963 (EPA). the Civil Rights Act of 1991 (CRA) which amended provisions of Title VII. The ADEA and the ADA, and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Six years of experience in monitoring compliance with federal nondiscrimination laws and regulations; or in human resources or employment law; OR

     

    Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of experience in monitoring compliance with federal nondiscrimination laws and regulations; or in human resources or employment law; OR

     

    A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in monitoring compliance with federal nondiscrimination laws and regulations; or in human resources or employment law; OR

     

    An advanced degree plus two years of experience in monitoring compliance with federal nondiscrimination laws and regulations; or in human resources or employment law.

    EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

    Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    Conducts investigations of complaints received by the Public Safety Services Compliance Programs Section (CPS) relating to employment matters and all workplace violence matters, administers oaths to witnesses in investigations, receives statements and other evidence in investigations, ensures cooperation of PSS employees in investigations, assists in composing written reports of investigations, assesses credibility of witnesses and weight of evidence in investigations, assists in making findings of fact, assists in developing a record of each investigation conduce by the CPS, assists in maintaining records of complaints to and investigations by the CPS in conducting compliance reviews of individual locations to ensure compliance with federal guidelines and agency policies.

     

    Coordinates the training of all units of PSS on the laws and discrimination enforced by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, including but not limited to sexual harassment discrimination, and retaliation.

     

    Ensures that PSS is in compliance with the goals and mission of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission by consulting with supervisors and unit heads and by recommending and implementing new programs, policies, or procedures for PSS.

     

    Assists PSS in gathering evidence and documentation to satisfy EEOC requests for information or assist the State Attorney General's Office in gathering documentary evidence when the suit has been filed in District or Federal Court.

     

    Obtains training and staying abreast of new investigative techniques and to follow the most recent court decisions and EEOC guidelines pertaining to discrimination in the workplace and keeping supervisors and managers up-to-date and refreshed on this topic.

     

    Assists in conducting on-site reviews to assure compliance with federal guidelines and agency policies.

     

    Assists in maintaining the central repository for all CPS complaints and investigations, including but not limited to EEO matters, domestic violence matters, and workplace violence matters.

    Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment.

     

    Career Progression:This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.

     

    Work Schedule:Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday.

     

    Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The bi-weekly rate for this position is as follows:

     

    Compliance Program Specialist 4 (AS616) - $1,768.00
