The Principal Lab Automation Officer performs customary scientific/lab duties without detailed supervision but well-aligned with scientists based in Athens to support scientists across research teams in non-infectious diseases, infectious diseases and parasitology research. This role engages with site operations to support local operational excellence in experimental execution. The incumbent designs and executes routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision as well as assists scientists on the Athens-based teams in supervising/training technicians and junior scientists.
The Principal Lab Automation Officer performs all work in conformance with applicable regulations. Performs all work in a safe manner. The primary scope of responsibility for this role is within the immediate discipline and secondarily within a multi-disciplinary environment. It also involves cross-functional work with GI-Clinical for sample management and handling including inventory management. This role supports scientists in Athens on purchase order workflows, ensures re-fill of consumables in the lab and LOS management compliance, clinical trial supply management, shipment logistics, data management, equipment management and long-term management of samples.
The Principal Lab Automation Officer contributes to internal research activities including execution of routine assays, automation of assay execution, compound printing, data management and processing to enable timely manner of data discussion. The incumbent coordinates with internal and external partners to improve local operational excellence across labs in Athens.
Duties & Responsibilities
+ Performs customary scientific/lab duties without detailed supervision but well-aligned with scientists based in Athens to support scientists across research teams in non-infectious diseases, infectious diseases and parasitology research.
+ Troubleshoots effectively and solves scientific problems independently.
+ Operates scientific/lab equipment and is independently responsible for maintenance.
+ Executes routine experiments based on literature analyses with minimal supervision by scientists on the teams.
+ Contributes to innovative assay development and executes assay implementation in-house.
+ Performs all work in conformance with applicable regulations.
+ Performs all work in a safe manner.
+ Works closely with the other scientists within the Non-Infectious Disease unit to drive innovative projects with creative experimental approaches.
+ Proposes modifications to experiments/technologies based on science as well as overall understanding of drug discovery/ development process being in regular exchange / troubleshooting with scientists on the team.
+ Uses strong interpersonal skills to interact with the Non-Infectious Diseases, Infectious Diseases and Parasitology teams to contribute to a thorough biological validation package to support new targets and modalities.
+ Contributes to the continuing growth and internal know-how of Non-Infectious Diseases, Infectious Diseases and Parasitology groups by supporting the training of transient lab members such as interns and co-ops as well as junior lab members.
+ Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics; Write protocols, procedures, and technical reports.
+ Contributes to continual optimization of workflows, SOP, and data management within Non-Infectious Diseases, Infectious Diseases and Parasitology groups.
+ Communicates clearly with all team members.
+ Complies with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner.
+ Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies.
+ Contributes by executing daily global research project activities within Non-Infectious Diseases, Infectious Diseases as well as Parasitology teams and presents data to project teams and other R&D functions or research partners.
+ Activities must be compliant with legislative expectations of regulatory agencies as well as internal standards of Good Scientific Practice.

Requirements
+ M.S. with two (2) years in life sciences (e.g., biology, immunology, molecular biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, chemistry).
OR
+ B.S. with four (4) years in life sciences (e.g., biology, immunology, molecular biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, chemistry).
+ Working knowledge of assays and methods used in pharmaceutical discovery with at least two to four (2-4) years’ in R&D roles, preferably two (2) years’ experience in Animal Health R&D.
+ Experience preparing and executing in vitro assays SOPs and protocols, and in data collection and reporting.
+ Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills allowing effective interaction across other groups in R&D, with parent and external partners.
+ Demonstrated project management skills
+ Work independently and on teams with minimal supervision but in close alignment with Principal/Senior Scientists, Scientist IVs and subdivision Heads.
+ Strong communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills allowing effective interaction with others in R&D and BI support functions, as well as external research facilities staff.
+ Fluency in English is mandatory and ability to communicate in French or German is beneficial.
+ Understanding of the business environment and the long-term impact of R&D investment on the business productivity is beneficial.
**Eligibility Requirements** :
+ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
+ Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
