    Job Description

    Grace is hiring a Technician Specialist to work onsite at our Process Innovation Center (PIC), located at our Curtis Bay/Baltimore, MD site. and support our Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) Catalysts Process Technology Team.

     

    As a Technician Specialist, you will support Grace’s Special Material Request (SMR) program as well as assist in making laboratory/pilot scale preparations of FCC catalysts and additives. Our SMR program enables customers to sample and evaluate our FCC products. Typical activities for the SMR program include drum handling, forklift operation, sample packaging, and preparing shipping paperwork. Attention to detail is critical in this role. When making pilot scale preparations of FCC catalysts and additives, activities will include operating pilot scale equipment.

    Responsibilities

    + Follow all Environmental Health & Safety requirements and do all required safety training. Work safely with chemicals/materials and wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment for the job.

    + Perform the laboratory/pilot scale preparation of FCC catalysts. Submit samples for analysis and evaluation.

    + Operate and share maintenance of pilot plant equipment with other group members.

    + Must be able to use lab and pilot plant equipment to include spray dryer, mixers, mills, gas emission scrubber, washing tanks and ovens.

    + Perform the necessary housekeeping maintain a clean and safe work area.

    + Collect and record data. Work with Word and Excel spreadsheets for data recording, data processing and reports.

    + Must be able to perform activities associated with the SMR program that include the following:

    o Upkeep and organization of a warehouse consisting of approximately 600 sample drums, maintaining a neat, orderly and safe workspace at all times.

    o Retrieve required samples from inventory, transfer them into designated containers, and prepare for laboratory analysis.

    o Prepare and generate shipping documentation for customer orders.

    o Operate equipment including a v-blender, sweco screen, and calciner

    o Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all completed tasks.

     

    Physical Requirements and Environment

     

    + Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.

    + Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials

    + Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

    Required Qualifications

    + H.S. diploma plus 5 years relevant laboratory, manufacturing, and/or skilled trade experience; Or AA degree in technical discipline.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Must be able to obtain forklift driver certification add within 2 months of being hired.

    + Strong attention to detail.

    + Ability to use standard office programs- email, Word, Excel.

    + Mechanical aptitude- ability to troubleshoot pilot scale equipment.
